Bonjour tout le monde, i have : K6-233 Mhz 80 Mo Ram EDO 70ns ( is it the problem ??? ) 3DFX Banshee i play French Version. When i play solo,i have 25 fps full detail with 19 AI 3 fps full detail with 19 AI 3 fps NO detail with 5 AI 15 fps full detail with 5 AI 15 fps NO detail So rastering is not the problem, maybe car dynamic or AI. I've read some problems with more than 64mb ram in EDO ?!?!? do somebody try with less or equal 64 mb ram ??? and problems gone ??? WHY IT'S SO SLOW ??????

No, it's not your ram. It's your Processor. I have a K6-2 350 (with 128 megs of PC100 ram, and a Monster3D II), and I get 8fps, with 19 AI, and full detail. It's not a problem for me though, I will probably never play against the AI. Me and the guy's at work plan on playing this game Multi-player.

I don't think it's all the processor's fault- my K6-2 300 with 32 MB SDRAM and a Stealth II gets over 28 FPS with 13 AI cars, drops into the ***s at the start, but comes back up nicely- this is in 640x480 with all the textures turned on. Unless the K6 is that much weaker than the K6-2..... -- Scott Moore Hoosier MotorSports [link lost in import] Sports *** Network [link lost in import: /***.com]

It's partly a slower processor and partly your video card. If you can't afford a cpu upgrade then get an 8 meg hercules thriller video card, gpl is written to run best with rendition chip video cards! With that you'll get most graphics with 5 ai cars . And the ai eats cpu speed alive. I upgraded from a 200 too a 450 just to get full graphics all ai and 36 fps, 30 on the grid.

If the problem is the video card , why i have no boost on framerate wheni turn off all details ????? ********************************* 3DFX banshe = Voodoo2 in Glide (3D) ramdac 270mhz in 2D ( 16Mo ) 640x480 120hz ********************************* Seb

You don't list the type of motherboard that you have, but I would probably assume that it is using either the Intel VX or TX chipset. These chipsets can only cache up to 64MB of RAM. With over 64MB of RAM, you can receive a 5-15% hit in performance. This may not account for all of your problems, but it may be one of them. Try removing 16MB to drop it down to 64 and see if you notice any difference. I use to have a K6-200 o'clocked to 225 with 64MB and a Voodoo1 running the alpha demo of GPL. It ran pretty darn well with all details turned on, but I have no idea how it ran with AI since there wasn't any in the demo! Also, make sure that your L2 cache is enabled on your motherboard. It's not your video card. Your video card is fine. The AI in GPL is very floating point intensive. The AMD K6's do not have as good of a floating point unit as there Intel counterparts.

I think you maybe have a problem with your system anyway - I have a lowly MMX 200 with 64Mb standard RAM (in SIMMs!), and an 8Mb Herc Thriller. I get around 13fps with a full field and full detail!! I ran GPL on a Voodoo1/P200mmx and got very similar results. On a Celeron 400/Voodoo2 system I get much better rates, but I still have to turn off a fair amount of detail to keep the frame rate close to 30fps consistently(ish) with 19AI. Andrew McP

It's a well known fact { check http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~alison/gpl/index.htm ) that on systems under 300 mhz that a rendition chip is THE choice, As I said it's a combination of things. Later, John
