GPL: How many fps with K6 II & Voodoo2??

How many fps you got with a K6 II (266/350 MHz) + Voodoo2 (or Banshee)? Does the sim run fluently? Stefano

It runs acceptably for hotlapping, but I am not satisfied with the frames during multiplayer. Very slow, even at 512xwhatever. This is the 300MHz K6-2 with Gigabyte 5AX motherboard (3x100) and a Monster 3D II 12MB. Probably the physics/FPU is the bottleneck--it is certainly not the graphics load, because replays run beatifully at 1024x768. Even riding with another driver while hosting a net race gives better frames than driving myself. Oh, I also am using and old T2 and CL SB16. Clark A. That really surprises me- in multi with 7 or 8 other drivers, I get no less than 26-28 FPS in 640x480 during normal racing. If it's real busy, it may go down to 18-20 for a moment, and if I'm alone on the track it jumps to 35-36. I have all the texture on, but all effects off, and cars only in the mirrors. I have a K6-2/300 on a VIA MVP3 MB(3x 100Mhz), 48MB RAM, and a Stealth II. Sorry I don't have any suggestions, but you should get better... -- Scott Moore Hoosier MotorSports [link lost in import] Sports *** Network [link lost in import: /***.com] >It runs acceptably for hotlapping, but I am not satisfied with the >frames during multiplayer. Clark have a look at your hardware. I suspect something may not be as it should be, although I acknowledge your posting isn't quantitive but that you are subjectively dissatisfied. I'm getting 25+fps average in 800x600 and 640x480 30+fps hotlapping. Subtract about 5fps from those figures for average traffic or multiplay. Of course there are times (like starts) when these figures go ballistic in either direction (momentarily 12fps at starts, and 36fps alone on track in places). Personally, I prefer the image quality of my Rendition 2100, and I don't like the lack of anti-aliasing in the Voodoo. I also preferred the old Rendition V1000 image quality in Quake (original) where it was written to the Speedy 3D API. Admittedly whilst quite fast, it was no match in speed for the Voodoo for sure. Surprisingly, the Rendition in GPL (judging from the performance of the V2100 on a friends PC) is just superior to it's Voodoo original contempory, and from what I'm gauging from the posts here the 230MHz RAMDAC V2200 with 8MB and AGP is faster than the Voodoo II as well as prettier.
SS> How many fps you got with a K6 II (266/350 MHz) + Voodoo2 (or Banshee)? It strongly depends on how many cars you are competing against. The AI need a lot of CPU-power... SS> Does the sim run fluently? Definetely on my K6-II/300 with a 12 MB Voodoo-II. FPS with all grafics on and 10 cars around 20-39. Also, man mailt sich... .\\atze [ FmMW2109 - FmMB2139 ] *home* : http://www.home4u.de/buesing/

I have my settings likewise. Perhaps it is just a matter of expectations. I want 36 fps all the time! Do you not notice a huge performance degredation when racing online? 800x600 is acceptable for training with spikes to 36 fps and usually in the mid 30s except for a couple of places on each lap (I've noticed this on just about all the tracks). I am running a Sportster ISDN 128K with the default Win98 drivers, perhaps that is the problem with running online. I am running a K6-2/300 on the ALI chipset (3x100, unable to 350), 128 MB PC100 SDRAM, V2/12MB. Clark A.

>>It runs acceptably for hotlapping, but I am not satisfied with the >>frames during multiplayer. Very slow, even at 512xwhatever. This is OK, I should quantify this as 20-25 fps. I don't think it is a hardware issue unless it is my ISDN card (see Must be those damn ISDN drivers. Maybe I'm just picky, but I want more than 20-25 fps in multiplay, because I have a hard time driving the car like that when used to more frames offline. Since I work at AMD, I do not want to put an Intel processor in my system (besides, that is just more money) so I'm stuck for now. Guess I'll have to wait for the K6-3 to get more clocks since I was unable to successfully overclock my processor. PS. The antialising lack for Voodoo is a GPL limitation, not a V2 limitation.
