I hope that when NR99 comes out this month, and NASCAR 2000/N3 comes out
whenever, we get as many posts here about those games as there have been abour
GPL in the last week.
If there are as many posts about the N2 games coming out as there have been
with GPL, I will be a wizard on the NASCAR games.

Sorry, just a bit cranky today...
NASCAR Racing 1999 versus GPL newsgroup traffic
A poster hoped NASCAR Racing 1999 would draw as much discussion as GPL, and someone suggested splitting the group into stock car and open-wheel sims. Others said NR99 was only a minor update to NASCAR 2, recommended filters, and noted many NASCAR fans posted on TEN's own newsgroup. The thread descended into mock partisan banter and some name-calling.
Automated summary.
Is it possible to maybe split up the newsgroups............One for
stock car sims and one for open wheel sims?
Just an idea (that has probably been offered up a few other times I'm
guessing)

Not really. I'm firmly convinced that open-wheel racing is NOT fun (to
watch or in which to participate), but I got GPL to see if my system
would be able to handle N2000. Not only will my system handle N2000, but
I've accepted GPL as just plain FUN to drive. N2 has been reduced to the
status of being a nice app for it's day, but GPL has raised the bar for
all racing sim manufacturers (even for Papyrus), and I won't buy another
sim that isn't at least as good as GPL.
I would highly recommend to anyone that has not bought GPL to do so,
especially if they plan on getting N2000 when it's released. You'll be
that much further ahead if you do because you'll be used to the physics
model by then, and you'll be able to assess your hardware upgrade
requirements in time.
A P2/300 or better, combined with a Voodoo2 card (unless they include
support for D3D in N2000) is recommended for high frame rates with a lot
of detail. Sierra was way off the mark with their minimum system
requiremenmts as printed on the GPL box.

So who wants to wade thru the "what a screwed up idea" posts that usually
accompany such an attempt? It takes 2 to 4 months to get a new newsgroup
approved. By the time you succeed, GPL will be nothing but a memory to
most of the folks here.

With higher priority on watch filter than kill filter.
And trust me, wait'll you see the flood that will be here when NCR1999
and NCR2000 come out. I remember when NCR2 came out and we about drove
the Indy people crazy <G>. Upwards of 200 messages a day just on NCR2.
BTW: Last I heard 1999 has been pushed to mid november and 2000 pushed
to april :(
Now I know I'll need a new system for NCR2000, mine will be 2 years
old by then <sigh>

I'll be willing to bet that there will not be 1/10 th of the posts total about
NR99 as there have been about GPL just since it has been released.
Now when N2000/N3 comes out...that might be a different story.

The majority of the bigger N2 and N99 fans participate in TEN's
newsgroup vs. RAS (In regards to N2 - N99 - N2000 issues).

GPL ROCKZ!!! NASCAR2 SUXXXX!!! CPR RULEZ!!!

Nigel Mansell RIP!
That wasn't directed towards anyone specifically. I'm trying
to be non-partisan, dammit!
"Nigel Mansell RIP!" is a line I've used under my name in
r.a.s.f1 posts dating back to the summer of 95. Rest well knowing
that the Great Mustachioed One is still alive and well, if not
winning.

If you *had* read the entire post, you would have used what little grey
matter you have and taken the whole thing in context. Stop bing a putz.

You bet there will be.
>Does anybody else get tired of wading through the GPL posts to find the
Not me. :) But I understand your position: it's tiresome to have to
read a lot of stuff you're not interested in just to find the few
posts you want. There really is just one feasible way: get a
newsreader that allows killfiling (or if your current newsreader
already allows it, find out how to use it.) Then, make a killfile for:
gpl | grand prix legends | gp legends | gplegends | legends
This should cover 95% of the GPL related material. I use this filter
to *retrieve* just this stuff, but anyway. :)
Or you could go the other way and create a "watch" filter for exactly
the topics you want to read about:
N2, N3, NASCAR, NASCAR2, etc.
Allow for misspellings and the usual abbrevs for maximum performance.
"Forte Agent" and "Gravity" are two popular newsreaders that allow
this.
Live and let live. :) Once you can automatically skip the stuff that
bores you, it will be much less annoying.
BTW, the idea of creating a seperate newsgroup will be voiced, as
always. It is *not* a good idea for several reasons. Believe me. :)
