Hello - I'm new to this newsgroup. I was hoping someone may be able to give some advice or pointers. I have a P2 266 with STB Velocity 128 AGP. Can't believe that GPL could run so slowly on such a "fast machine". OK - so I need a 3dfx card. Only found out what that was yesterday... Is there anyone who can suggest the best way forward with 3D graphics - Voodoo2 has been recommended. Tony

That should be your best bet, with the P2-266. I'd say get a 12 Meg Voodoo 2. I have a Creative Labs 12mb V2, runs GPL great on my P2-400. This should be $199 in stores, with a $50 rebate = $149. Might find it for less online. There are several other Voodoo 2's, and they're all really about the same - based on the 3dfx reference design, and they can use the 3dfx reference drivers (a few have TV-out and are a bit different). So you can probably go for the best price, personally I'd stick with the major names (Creative, STB, Diamond, Canopus ) but I haven't heard of any "lemons" of the other brands. You can find 8 meg versions for even less, and they'll probably run GPL the same, but for some games the extra memory helps. Ken
Definitely get a Voodoo2 - a 12mb one if you can afford it. -- ========================================================= John Simmons - Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html John Simmons - Barbarian Diecast Collector http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html If you want to send me email, go to either of the URL's shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

I got a CL 12 meg Voodoo2 from buycomp.com for $167. It is retail boxed and thus qualifies for the CL $50 rebate you can download in .pdf format from the CL website. Although I have heard beefs about buycomp, I am real pleased with the transaction. At this price I may double up soon and cruise in SLI mode for 3dfx. --Slappy109

Check out the review of the Diamond Monster2 at www.combatsim.com. He says that it performed much better than other 12mb Voodoo2 cards he tested. Also check out www.tomshardware.com for comprehensive reviews of Voodoo2 cards. That will help you base your decision on some benchmarks. I just ordered a Voodoo2 board and did quite a bit of research. I went with the Monster2 from Diamond. I ordered it from www.necx.com and there is a $50 rebate until October 31st. The card is around $225 but with the rebate it falls in line with the other cards mentioned here on the NG. I went for the Monster2 because of the purported better performance, support, drivers etc. J.
