I killed Lorenzo Bandini tonight. Ran into the back of him on the front
stretch at Monza. He was doing about 170mph. I was at 190mph. Poor L.
ended up rolling 17 times. Even though it's just a sim, it's amazing how
guilty I felt. Maybe Adrian Fernandez could learn something from GPL.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Guilt after causing a fatal crash for Bandini in GPL
A player described feeling guilty after crashing into Lorenzo Bandini at Monza in GPL, with a jab at Adrian Fernandez over the 1996 Toronto CART race. Others corrected the Krosnoff accident details, noted Bandini really died in 1967 at Monaco with a quoted Motor Sport report, and shared their own AI crash stories.
Automated summary.
I assume you're referring to the Krosnoff incident? (I was marshalling on
the next corner, btw)
Well, Adrian wasn't involved in that.. he was just the winner of that race.
Guilty, maybe for celebrating a victory whilst others had just
witnessed/been involved in a terrifying and tragic accident.
Did you win? :o)

a flip-over crash, that's kind of prophetically morbid, I suppose.
I agree with some of the other posters that it's amazing anyone would
drive these machines, given how easily one could be killed or maimed
by one bad judgement call.
I bemoan many aspects of modern racing (sponser ad blitzes on
everything, etc.), but I'm glad the safety factor has increased a
hundredfold from what they had in the era GPL simulates.

Well I think that is much more tragic....since until yesterday afternoon,
you were still alive!!!! :)

Ferrari's Amon is SUCH a late braker! I got rear-ended coming up on the
first Lesmo at Monza and WHAM! We danced on the guardrail. He landed right
side up and continued (mind you, I was running Intermediate Long with only
the advanced damage model), but I wasn't so fortunate. Glad he survived,
though, to race another day in the virtual world.

Yes, too true. I have in front of me the MOTOR SPORT magazine issue
dated June 1967. This is what Denis Jenkinson wrote in his report:
"On lap 82 as Bandini took the "chicane" the Ferrari struck the wooden
barriers and was immediately out of control. It mounted the straw bales
on the outside of the corner, a wheel was broken off and the car landed
upside down in the middle of the road with the driver trapped
underneath. Almost instantaneously the car was a sheet of flame and by
the time Bandini was extricated from the wreckage he was in a very
serious condition, and subsequently died from his burns."
I sit here in awe of the guys who drove those cars for real, and I thank
God that GPL is only sim:)
Cheers,

Well according to the adds for GPL, this is why you should buy the game. At
least they left out all the *** and***like all the action games. Or
should that be an option? ;-0

It was made clear that the news of Krosnoffs death had not reached the
celebrating crowd at the pits, so it's not as bad as you made it look...

Hmm, while Adrian Fernandez won his first race in Toronto a couple years
ago, he wasn't involved in Jeff Krosnoff's accident. It was Stefan
Johansson who moved over on Krosnoff and started what was one of the most
horrific shunts I've ever seen.

I agree - I had a crash yesterday in the Ferrari with another Ferrari
driver (think it was Parkes) at Spa and we were both "killed". It was
all my fault, and I felt guilty. This sim sucks you in like no other.
I've not even driven the wrong way yet - normal crashes are so ***
that there really is no need. Have you seen Dave Mansells 160mph+
crash at Spa? My god...

No, is there a website with a replay? I rarely turn on "Realistic" damage,
so I don't see broken wheels and fires when I crash.

Yes...it is a gross error in the simulation programming.
