Hi all,
I just got back from DoktorB's website. (GREAT job, Doc!)
I am troubled by one thing, however: I've been reading here, for months now,
about how GPL has the best, most realistic physics engine ever imaginable on
the face of the planet. On the Doktor's screenshot page are a couple shots
showing the car at an apparent altitude of 200-300 feet in the air. Could
someone please explain to me how such a "realistic" sim could allow for that?
I have been a racing fan for almost 40yr., and 20ft. is about the max. I've
ever seen in real life.
Thanks,
Bob

Surely in real life they weren't doing their level best to hurl the
car though.

"That's not car control, that's crisis management"
Screen-shot = demo = developmental tool = nowhere near anything like
100% correct in 100% of all areas = cars 300 feet in the air and
climbing!

I've got a nice replay of some cars "hanging out" 300ft up.. for over 30
seconds..
Whilst the crash modelling has been somewhat improved over earlier versions
(from what I've heard), the BETA still has a few flaws.
I swear.. two cars suddenly appeared over the main straight at Monza after
coming THROUGH the pit STALL.... very strange..
I believe this problem has been fixed, though for the final version. (I
would hope so!)
Also a problem during Internet play, with cars "bouncing around like tennis
balls" or "jumping beans"... I believe that too, is/was worked on.

Didnt you know that these cars had rocket engines in real life? ;-P
It's a bug in the demo... there are a few spots where if you drive your car into
them at high speed, it goes FLYING!!!

Oooooh....cool!!!
Do we get heat-seeking missiles? Or at least a good 20mm cannon? <grin>
THAT would slow those Lotus' (Loti?) down :-)

Yeah, a good one at Watkins Glen is to drive right at the guy who holds
up the lap times board. He's right in front of a fence, there's a 2nd
guy there next to him. Anyways, at high speed, drive right at them.
You will go straight through the fencing and hit "something?" which then
catapaults your car WAY up in the air. Most times when I try this the
engine catches fire as well. Funny thing is, it catches fire at/near
the top of the flight - you'd think it'd burst in to flames at the
outset when you hit that "mystery barrier" or whatever it is behind the
fence that shoots you straight up in to the air. Getting a replay of
this is tough though, it seems to create a huge file which then usually
locks up in replay.
LOL, geeze, I forgot about the invisible ramp they used to have at the 'Glen.
Oh, well, like they say, "if you can remember the '60's, then you didn't live
through them" :o)
Hmmm, 300ft. with a '67 Lotus......Somebody get me a 917/40 -- let's go for
some SERIOUS hang time.
Specific glitches I can live with (like the pit wall at Surfer's Paridise), I
was just concerned about if it was a general attribute of the sim's physics.
Thanks to all for not flaming.
Oh, by the way,,,anybody know if Papy's finally gonna give us rain?
Love&Light
