I was watching the German Grand Prix on the weekend and took note of the
trap speeds for the cars. The fastest cars were going about 345-348KPH on
the straightaways. Within the game the 98 carset I have has them topping out
around 330. I adjusted the BHP figures until I had the cars in GP2 doing the
same speeds as the real ones. I adjusted them up to around the 850 BHP range
and then lowered the drivers grip ratios to maintain the same lap times.
Made it a little more accurate. I then tried a race at another track and the
lap times remained very close to the actual lap times of that particular
circuit.
Nog a big deal, but if you are trying to get the CC cars to perform as close
to the real ones as possible you might wanna try this too.

It won't work to perfection on every track.... Problem is that the CC setup is
stored in the trackfiles. It is the _setup_ that limits topspeed an cornering
speed to a certain maximum, no matter how much grip/BHP.. you give the CC. You
CAN get around it by editing the trackfiles, but it is very labour-intensive..

At the time Jordan and
Benetton were very quick in Germany and Italy but Dreadful at Monaco and
Hungary. In contrast teams like Arrows were the other way round.
To sort this out I edited the BHP and grip of the teams and ran Qual
sessions and looked at the results.
eg 13500 Grip to 17000 Grip in 500 increments
600 BHP to 850 BHP in 50 BHP increments.
I got the results and stuck them in an Excel table and extrapolated
(easy on a SSheet) down to 100 Grip and 10 BHP Increments.
This procedure was used at Monaco and Monaza (Pretty Different!)
Then I just set a time for the Benetton at each and found where the
values were the same (high power - low grip)
Opposite was true for Arrows.
Since then I have written a spreadsheet where you just type the desired
time at each of the two tracks and it tells you what combination of
power and grip you need. Unfortunately after about 820 BHP the math goes
a bit off because you keep running up against the rev limiter in 6th.
Still it's a good guide. Another problem is that cars like Damon's
Arrows never does well, because it will have such a power deficiency
that it cannot overtake anything like a Jordan or Benetton which may
well hold it up at Monaco and Hungary.
If anyones interested i'll post the Spreadsheet to the group, but please
reply via the group.
Cheers
