Hi there, I've got a problem with the GPL demo, because it only runs when the graphics are set to softdll.dll. If I change it to rendition or 3dfx the game won't startup anymore. Does anyone know this problem and how to solve it? My system is: AMD K6 233 Mhz; 64 MB; Viper330 4MB PCI. Thanks.

I think the problem lies in the fact that a Viper is a Riva-based card...from what you've posted you have no 3Dfx or Rendition hardware,,,,, Scott Moore >Hi there, >I've got a problem with the GPL demo, because it only runs when the graphics >are set to softdll.dll. You need a Rendition or 3DFX based card to use either the Rendition or 3DFX renereing modes. You don't have either. The solution for you is to buy a video card based on a Rendition or 3DFX chipset. Trips

Bummer, eh? I have the same problem, having rushed out and purchased an at all the same thing as either 3DFX or Rendition. The ATI is a great card which comes bundled with all sorts of really cool 3D games and an even cooler hardware analysis program that amply demonstrates the enormous improvement made possible by graphics hardware acceleration. Sadly, it does nothing at all for Grand Prix Legends. I'm going to have to buy a Rendition card as well now. My questions are, can I have both cards installed at the same time? Do I just plug the monitor into either card whenever I need to switch between Rendition or 3D-RAGE games? Or will I need to physically swap out the graphics cards each time? And worse yet, will I need to uninstall and reinstall software drivers (and DirectX?) each time? Bummed and confused in Ottawa, -Ferdinand-

Probably the best move would be to add a Voodoo or Voodoo2 to the system. It will work alongside the ATI card and you'll be able to run all the 3DFX native titles. The Rendition will not work alongside the ATI (well, theoretically it might, Win98 supposedly supporting multiple video cards and monitors and all), but if you can find a Rendition 2200 based card, you might consider replacing the ATI with it. The Rendition version of GPL looks a mite better than the 3DFX version, but the difference is slight... I don't think you'd be unhappy either way. Trips

<Snippo> >Bummer, eh? >I have the same problem, having rushed out and purchased an >at all the same thing as either 3DFX or Rendition. Right. Not yet. The software renderer isn't optimized in the demo. It wil be in the release version. No. Yes. Yes. If you like the ATI card the best thing you can do, is buying a 3DFX card. However, you better wait until GPL is released. Scan this NG for the best video card you can use, THEN make a decision. Remco.

I had a Diamond Viper 330 AGP I bought back in Februray for $250 (Can). Great card, only it doesn't run 3DFX. So a couple of weeks ago, I saw a rebate on the Diamond Stealth S220 (Rendition). Price after rebate is approx $45(Can)!!!! At that price, I figured I couldn't go wrong.. only stupid me - thought I could run it alongside my Viper. Does anyone know of any way to disable the 2D component of the card - I want to keep the Viper as I spent so much money on it a few months back, yet I *really* want the Stealth's Rendition for GPL. What I want to do is have the Viper for 2D/D3D, but have the Stealth there for games that require Rendition. Come on, there's got to be a way!!... Anyone???? doktorB

If you had win98, you could take advantage of Multi monitor support... :) I really don't think that will solve your problem, though........ The PCI card will always be the default primary card over the AGP. I'm not sure if you could specify in games which card to use.... I guess your best option is to sell the V220, and buy a Voodoo Graphics card. Z.

I saw in PC GAMER a couple of months ago a utility that allows you to choose which video card to use. I know its avalable on the web somewhere.
