F1RS - Rain Setups

7 posts by 3 people · 09 Jun 1998 - 13 Jun 1998

Is anyone really keeping up with the CC's in the rain? I don't mean in a single,*** out all over, flying lap. I mean after 60 laps are you in the lead in Expert with no helps? If so, could you please post a detailed explanation of your setup and driving philosophies. Plus. Would everyone driving Expert with no helps please post a ballpark figure of how far you are behind the CC's in 100% humidity, per lap? You know, 3 seconds, 2 seconds... -- mark "A lot of people think racing is about going fast. But it's not. It's about going just slow enough to stay on the track." Mark, I consider myself to be an exceptionally good no helps sim racing driver :o))) and I tried to keep up with the CC's at Melbourne and Interlagos in the rain, but the corner speeds the CC's can achieve in the rain is absolutely ridiculous. I couldn't get those cornering speeds even with a lot of rear and front wing. When I maxed my wings I didn't have a chance on the straights either. This was one of the many reasons I gave up F1RS and now only drive the GPL demo :o). My best dry laps is; Melbourne - 1:28.4, Interlagos - 1:14.8, and I drive _without_ ABS, anti-spin, anti-skid and the ideal trajectory, thus being a no helps sim racer :o). /Christer Andersson
Yes, but what are your rain times there Christer? I ask because I would like to send UBI some rough numbers in hopes that they can patch F1RS. If not, then at least deal with it in the next game. I won't buy F1RS2 if it is as poorly made. But I *want* to buy it. You see? UBI really needs to get some people testing for them. Their approach seems to be all wrong in calculating the CC behavior. If they can't get the drivers, I'm thinking some input form us may help. This is what Claudine Bonneau of UBI has to say: "Hello Mark, The behavior of the competitors (computer cars) is based on the telemetry data supplied to us by Renault Sport. This means that the curve speeds are exactly the same as the ones in the Argentina Grand Prix (96). However, it was sunny during that week-end, therefore the telemetric data that we have are those from a dry race. For the race under the rain, we had to extrapolate from the information that we had. It was the first time that this Grand Prix was running, which is why we didn't have any other data depicting racing under rainy conditions. That's why there may be some small discrepancies... Thanks, Claudine" Of course these are standard excuses (It was the first time that this Grand Prix was running, which is why we didn't have any other data depicting racing under rainy conditions = bullshit) but they really do need to approach the problems. They seem to want to make a good sim. -- mark "A lot of people think racing is about going fast. But it's not. It's about going just slow enough to stay on the track."
