Beyond GPL, we know there will be N3, and we hope there will be
ICR3/CART2 by Papyrus. But what else is to follow?
What *I*'d really love to see is:
a) a GT of the 60's sim, featuring Ford GT40s, Ferrari GTOs and Shelby
Cobras,
and, maybe even more fun,
b) a touring cars of the 60's sim, where Lotus Cortinas could race
Mini Coopers and Ford Galaxies. Just think of that! :)
Would anybody else be interested in seing those sims become a reality?
Or are there other suggestions?

Wish list for historic sims using the GPL engine
Fans proposed future sims built on the GPL engine: 1960s GT cars, 1960s touring cars with Minis and Cortinas, Bathurst Falcons and Toranas, Porsche 917s and above all Can-Am. Marc Nelson of The Sim Project pointed to its upcoming Trans-Am and WSC car models for NASCAR 2 as a possible route for Can-Am-style add-ons.

Mini Coopers! Yum, would love to go screaming (literally) round
corners on 3 wheels :-)

released later this year(?), perhaps we'll be able to play with
the car models and physics. Considering the sim will feature
several different bodies (with their own characteristics), we
could have a hellava' good time creating "add-ons."
Of course, editors based on the new GPL-format 3do's would be
mucho cool too! =)

I belive that feature/option has been scrapped and will not be in GPL.
I could be wrong tho...

Finally people who think like I do! No thrill in driving a multi-million
italian sportscar, more fun can be found from rather conventional
pieces. I've been hoping for a long time that some company would make
a new version of California Dreams's ancient "Street Rod". Now there's a
game with idea! All it needs is a 3d city where to roam, and more tuning
options.
^^^
a "teaching assistant" sim?
Seriously, what does T/A stand for?
Not to put any pressure on you or the other TSP folks, but the people
who managed to morph an Indycar into an 80's GT surely could do
wonders with GPL. :)
BTW, when will the ICR2 carsets be available again? It says "soon" on
the page, but what does that mean exactly? Nice new layout, btw.

There is a historical documentary series on on DSF (German sports TV
channel) where they show a lot of original footage from different
racing series of the 50s and 60s. The Coopers are spectacular, but the
Cortinas even more so, lifting the inner *front* wheel in corners.
Scary. :)

Trans Am...at least I'm assuming it'll be a "sim."
TSP (and company) have come along way in developing new shapes, more
so than many realize. I've posted the .3do file that the WSC cars
will be based on, and you can download it at the following:
ftp://ftp.simproject.com/files/wsc.zip
Keep in mind that this is a preliminary shape, and that the values
for the panels aren't in yet (in other words, if you load it into the
sim, it'll be invisible).
You can, however, view the body using Marcelo's 3do Editor (available
at the TSP site), and if you care to, convert the 3do into 3dv format
for viewing in GLView. You can even go so far as converting the 3dv
model into raw format, and then reopen it in GLView...the car will have
color applied, and it'll be easier to understand where I'm going with
the shape. Let me know what you guys think, as no one else has seen it
yet.
The WSC shape on the FTP site is made up of all-new vertices, rather
than simply "moving and adjusting" the vertices from another car
(stuff learned from working on the CART set). =)
Without giving away the whole ball-o-wax, the cars will be nearly
100% new (except for the tires), and you'll be able to paint every
visible part on the car - including the dash! Because of the size
of the finished files, those with low-end computers may have a tough
time running the sim with the set (if at all)...i.e: 486.
Been very busy...You can still access the carsets (for now) using
the ftp address above. Between work and family, it's been tough to
squeeze any free time, but I hope to have the CART set (beta) ready
in a week or so, and a full-painted version released July 4th.
...and thanks for the comments on the new site format. =)
Cheers!

I think if the TSP-WSC cars are converted over to N2, that a suitable
Can Am "feel" could be possible. =)

This is normal. Cars with lots of rear roll stiffness, like a Golf GTI
or other sporty FWD, will lift their inside rear wheel. Cars with lots
of front roll stiffness, a good example being racing 911s, lift their
inside front wheel. playing with the roll stiffness at the ends of
the car gives you a lot of play with the handling behaviour of the car.
For autocrossing, I dialed in tons of rear stiffness to my old Scirocco.
Took away all the FWD understeer, and even gave me lots of traling
throttle oversteer to play with.
To follow up on the thread, one of the joys of the GT game for the
PSX is the run of the mill bargain racers to be found in the used car
section. For the first five hours of playing, I ignored all the
supercars and progressively dialed in the handling of an old
Corolla (a nostalgic flirt with my first autocrosser)

Oh no Marc!! <G!>
I'm talking about the *real* thing here.... you know.. the Chapparals,
McLaren M8B's, the UOP Shadows and last but not least the all conquring
Porsche 907's and 917's. You know.... plenty of grunt from roaring V8's and
turbo-powered Porsches.... and *almost* no grip at all... like I said.... -
the *real* thing!!

Why, yes! ;)
Sounds like a perfect recepie for Can Am ala N2!
BTW, check out a few of the links I placed on TSP, namely some of
the ones listed under favorites. You'll find some great historical
data on all forms of sportscar racing. =)
Cheers!

I'd prefer the 2 door Falcons Vs the Torana A9X hatchbacks myself!

Oh for a good A9X or L34....

Times are changing. More and more software companies are going
to be entering the auto sim market. And in doing so,will have to
offer new products ei. different types of racing, different eras, and
different cars. Sooner or later, all of our favorite types of racing
and eras will be offered.
Last year if anyone told me that the golden years of trans am
racing;1968-72 would be released in a state of the art sim, I would
have thought them crazy.
