ICR2 & Windows 95 b & Thrustmaster T2 = need help please!

2 posts by 2 people · 29 Apr 1998 - 29 Apr 1998

Hi guys, after playing CPR for too long I thought I'd check out ICR2 again to see whether it's still fun. I had to dig really deep, but I was lucky to find it. But hey: somehow I can't seem to be able to use my T2 in Windows 95 b with ICR2! The wheel works fine with all other sims I've got (e.g. NASCAR 2, CPR, F1RS, TOCA) but ICR2 just won't cooperate. I remeber playing it in Windows 95 a - version without problems. Someone got a cure? Thanks people, Nick

Thanks people, I remember this problem some time back here in r.a.s.land, and I don't really recall a "solid" solution. Is this the DOS version of ICR2 or the Windows version? It seems odd that there should be a problem with the DOS version as it doesn't use any of the Win95 dll's for the joystick routine. This would lead me to believe that you have something "missing" in your soundcard/gamecard setup that is not letting it be seen by the DOS version of ICR2. But, then again, you say it works with N2, so. . . Thrustmaster's tech help for setting up the T2 for ICR2 DOS version, says that if you can't get it to recognize the wheel you "should" re-boot to DOS mode. It may not work, but try setting up your T2 with Thrustmaster's ProPanel applet (if you haven't already done so). ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/calibration/propanelv11.exe Just for the record, here are a couple of old posts from r.a.s. regarding this issue: _________________________________________________________________ Subject: Suggestion : N2/win95b/T2 Date: 1997/03/21 Newsgroups: rec.autos.simulators Several people have reported problems getting the T2 recognized by Nascar 2 running under win95b. I think I can offer some help. I was running win95a a week ago with the Extreme Competition Controller which I re-wired (with the help of the Extreme Competition Controller manufacturers) to work exactly like the T2. Under win95a, I could easily run Indycar Racing 2, Nascar 2, Screamer 2, MTM, etc. But, when I downloaded and installed the updated drivers for the Sidewinder 3d pro (which I gather are substantially similar to the win95 joystick drivers), I could no longer configure my Extreme Competition Controller to work with Screamer 2 although it worked fine in Win95 with everything else. Screamer 2 would not allow me to configure the Extreme Competition Controller because in addition to seeing a J1 X-axis and J1 Y-axis (thanks to Thrustmaster dongle from my old T1), Screamer 2 also saw a phantom J2 axis (I forget whether it was J2 x or y). I suspect Nascar 2 may be running into the same problem with your T2s under win95b. I solved my problem by cutting pins 11 and 13 out of a cheap joystick extension cable and plugging that into the loop between the Thrustmaster dongle and my computer. Note: pins 11 and 13 carry the J2 axis information. Once I did that, Screamer 2 no longer saw the phantom 3rd axis and no longer hung during setup. This may not solve your problems, but hopefully it will get you thinking in the right direction. Brent K. Go >>figure. Works okay for me, too, with OSR2/FAT32 and a T2. I'm using a cheap speed-selectable joystick card. Two things that may be different between my machine and others: 1. I have "*** devices" instead of "joystick" in my control panel, courtesy of the drivers for my Microsoft gamepad. That may mean that I have different joystick DLLs and whatnot than most people running OSR2. If you have a MS joystick or pad, there are updated drivers for it at www.microsoft.com. (If you don't, you may or may not be able to do something with them anyway.) 2. I have an entry in my devices list for my gamecard. I had to tell Win95 that it's a Thrustmaster ACM, since there's no entry for a generic game card. Initially I didn't have my gamecard in my devices list, just my joysticks, and that worked with most games, but not Monster Truck Madness. I had to add the gamecard entry before MTM would look for a joystick or wheel. Anyway, that's a couple more things to try, unless someone already mentioned them while I wasn't paying attention. -- _________________________________________________________________ -- **************************** Michael E.
