F1RS demo sucks (is full version better?)

Is the F1RS full version a completely different game than the demo? It must be, because I see people raving about the driving model, but the car in the demo drives like a ***y freight train (using a Thrutmaster T2 wheel). Easily the worst, most uncontrollable computer sim I've ever tried. (Of course it doesn't help that they won't let you use analog gas/brakes - who was the moron who thought up that one?) The steering is just awful. Nice eye candy, but like every other Ubisoft gme I've tried (POD, Redline Racer) the steering/driving sucks horribly. A couple questions: Is the full version completely different in driving/steering model? (I'm assuming it must be) Does the full (US) version come with fully optimized car setups for each track? I HATE spending time in the garage tweaking setups (espcially since everyone seems to agree the F1RS user interface sucks). I just want to load the best setups and drive. Joe
Joe, The Demo of F1RS does not do the game any justice. In fact Ubisoft should be thankful that the demo didn't disuade too many people from buying the full game. The steering in the full game can be change to suit your preferences by setting the sensitivity. I have it set at about 70%, but some people use 80% or higher. The gas/brake are also analogue control in the full game, and you can also change the sensitivity of these as well. As for the setups you can download some from [link lost in import] Each tracks setup only takes a couple of seconds to download and then unzip, so in a couple of minutes you can have all the tracks downloaded. I have the UK version so I don't know if the US has different setups, but the ones on the pages above have had a lot of work put in to them, and can be tweaked for your own driving style. I love the full game. At first I found it frustrating, but I've actually found that driving on the most realistic settings (no ABS or traction control etc) makes you drive the car much smoother (and I seem to stay on the track much more). Regards Andrew

Indeed, the demo doesn't give you a clear view: The game SUCKS ever harder :-) Bart

No offence Bart, but most of the people that think F1RS sucks haven't taken the time to get used to it's driving model. I'm not saying this is the case with you, rather what I've experienced through contact with others. Most people who bought F1RS also owned GP2, which is where the problems arise. When I first bought F1RS I found it very different to GP2, and couldn't drive the car very well at all. I was ready to take the game back to the store, when I thought that maybe I shouldn't try to drive like I did in GP2. I started to drive the tracks on the most realistic settings, at quite a slow rate, just to get a feel for the corners. Each lap I got progressively faster, as I learnt how the car handles and what each corners limit is. I'm still no expert, but I now find it so much easier to drive. I love GP2 still but since I've improved at F1RS I haven't even loaded it. IMHO F1RS has quite a steep learning curve, but I always feel much better when I've put in a good lap than I did in GP2. Of course, not everyone will like the game. I don't think it's even remotely possible to make a game that will appeal to everyone. What I would say is that you should give your own opinion, and back it up with your criticisms. Don't just tell someone a game "sucks". That doesn't help the person decide whether to buy the game. Why not post a message that tells us why you think it sucks ? Regards Andrew

> Indeed, the demo doesn't give you a clear view: > The game SUCKS ever harder :-) > Bart I look at it this way. A person who posts here and has such command of the English language that he has to use the work "suck"-- that person no doubt has no idea what he's talking about. Some folks judge a simulation based soley on how easy it is. F1RS is a great simulator and a whole lot of fun. Further, it is difficult and takes time to learn. The fact that a simulator-- or any game, for that matter, is hard to master will cause the weak to brand it as bad. So when I see the work "suck" in a header, my first inclination is to say that this poster doesn't know ***. Alanb
Hi! Since I used the word "Suck", I'll try to write down some decent reasons:(I put the good thing below) The bad things: Driving Model: 1.Cars are partly front-wheel driven. Try to race some cars in real life and you'll notice that cars with engine in the back feel like driving on ice. The car will slide much quicker. 2.Steering 'lock' is not reduced by speed. It's totaly the same stereeing behavout when at 10mph or at 100mph. Not in real life. 3.Driving in the wet is even more unrealistic. I admit that it is not easy, but it's not realistic. Graphics: 1.Tracks are foolishly wrong: a.Monaco; Tunnel and start/fin too small. It's twice as wide as ***. tunnel is too dark. Cerbs are too low wich makes it easy to cutoff corner. b.Japan; Too flat, which ruins the build of circuit. elevation is needed c.San Marino; Historic track, but only the start/fin is ok. wrong elevations, and unknown half-high walls. Looks like park of Monza, but SM is in a farmers land. (not much trees) d.Monza; Parabolica is 30% too small, it's alomst a pit entance. etc, etc, etc 2.***pits are too unclear. Can't read displays at bottom. 3. Pitradio is terrible. It shouts in your ears. Ruins my concentration. Should me controlable from cokcpit (like in real-life) Others: 1. Returning to garage form track takes toooooo long(certainly for minor adjustments. 2. Menus are too slow because of "music" 3. Slowdown is 1st corner, with anything less than a p2 with 64 mb Not everyone has got a p2 !!! 4. Too many patches, too much to download for a full priced game. 5. Some patches don't work witout the previous. 6. twice as much diskspace needed as everyother game 100mb -> 200mb 7. Weak AI for easier levels(easy, etc) 8. It costs a $15 more than other games. GOOD THING: 1. Great feel of being there 2. Beatiful smoke, etc. 3. Great bumps in Buenos Aires, etc. But I didn't want to offend any of you!!! With kind regards, Bart

See Bart, that wasn't too difficult was it ? :-) Seriously, your opinions are now much more valid and I respect your views. I also agree with what you have said (apart from the price part), but I personally don't believe that they make the game "suck". They do detract from the game, but they aren't really serious enough to stop me playing. Regards Andrew

Thanks for the feedback. I did decide to get the sim, and like it well enough (though the steering's a bit twitchy at high speeds). I'm not a *** simmer much, more of an arcade driver, so the ngeatives that you mention are not too big a deal for me - the positive "feeling of being there' is the main thing i wanted, so I can enjoy the sport more as a fan.
