I had the urge recently to install this game again, but it's just showing it's age too much and it's getting too finnicky to set up. Also, since I got an LCD monitor, I doubt I'd be able to "zoome" in the image and get rid of the letterboxing. Maybe somebody could make an F1 Challenge mod?

There's an all in one install patch and cars that look like this http://gplea.racesimcentral.com/cars/1967f1/Lotus_49/lotussc2.jpg Old looking it aint.
But still one of the best to drive from the point of feel. When driving, the letterboxing doesn't seem to enter into the experience, for me. The GPLEA upgrades make a big difference. Kudos to those guys. C. Beaudouin magnulus wrote: > I had the urge recently to install this game again, but it's just showing > it's age too much and it's getting too finnicky to set up. Car updates here: http://gplea.racesimcentral.com/ Some cars have several update options (eg Lotus 43 & 49). You can only use one at a time, but each pack contains various options for looks (eg engine cover on the Eagle) or to improve framerate on older systems (2D wheels etc). I use a Gf4200 and can just about run with all GPLEA cars & high-res textures, YMMV. For removing the letterbox there are some options but no really simple options. One solution would be to experiment with Guru's updated rasterisers: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=34383 They offer various screen resolutions not available as standard. I use one of these to run at 1400x1050 but there are widescreen & 'tall' options too IIRC. The other solution is slightly easier: live with it ;-) Malc.

If you are new to GPL it shows what it will look like with the 3rd party add ons. Do not discard it based on teh initial view! I am a sucker for the open wheel cockpits with real gauges, steering wheels and gear levers rather than LCD displays, yokes and paddles of modern day sims such that I find GPL to be the best looking sim right now. The cockpits in the F1C mods don't come close IMHO. Cheers Tony

The base for modders for the EA series is fantastic in terms of the variety of vehicles that can be produced. However, the cockpits still are way behind GPL IMHO, which is down to what the modders have to work with. A non round steering wheel for one! They just look so 2d and feel like a computer game. Personally I find F1C and the mods look great as screenshots but don't do much for me in game. Just my preference. Cheers Tony
