What can I tell you... 1. There is always a 50% chance you won't have sound on the track when starting F1RS 2. If there is any chance of humidity you tend to have a "black" sky 3. Invisible cars on occasion 4. When crossing pitlane entrance at any track during a race there seems to be a random chance of switching to the outside view of your car. 5. Fuel mileage is not displayed in setup sometimes even after many laps. 6. Even after setting up a pit strategy you have to manually enter the amount of fuel you want at each pitstop in a race. 7. When saving setups sometimes your values are different after you save...they are often different when printing a setup. 8. The false start functions when it wants to...even after making sure its enabled. 9. The replay functions when it wants to...even after I've made sure its enabled. 10. No restart function...though this may be disabled in expert/realistic skill level. 11. Telemetry is awful...no wheelspin, superimposing crashes the game...no description of editing controls in Telemetry. Oh, and its also inaccurate. 12. Horrendous frame rate slowdown when many cars are in front view...even after cutting the graphics back. 13. When exiting your pit during a race it goes to external view. 14. Even when you have 20 good tires in storage, your car on the last sprint of a race will be VERY loose...whether the game gives you used tires or takes away your rear wing I can't tell. 15. Not near enough breakdowns (including my own) or accidents. 16. The menu is by far the most user-unfriendly I have ever seen... I say again...its absolutely horrendous. 17. Takes FAR too long to end race if you decide to abandon it... have end task & restart game. 18. When the replay function does work...various graphics bugs show up. 19. Lap info & times are too far up the screen to view safely...and not informative enough Realistic/Expert settings 100% race distance 1.08 patched USA version (if there is one) 2nd install of F1RS 233 AMD K6 ASUS TX97 motherboard WIN95 B version Monster I 3dfx Matrox Millenium I 64 meg SDRAM T2 wheel & pedals Soundblaster 16 300 MB swap file And this is only after racing two tracks! I'm sure there will be more bugs to follow...as tracking down major defects in F1RS is much more fun than actually playing it. Another $40 box of eye candy lacking in substance and actual playability...I suppose we bring this upon ourselves...give em an inch & they will take us mile after mile. -Screamin

The only thing I'll agree with you on. I've never experienced any of the graphic problems you have encountered after playing every day for two months now. F1RS has always started right up, never crashed and, frankly, is a fine piece of work IMO. P233MMX, Pure3D, Millinium2 4MG, 64MG Ram,TMGP1. Sorry your having so much trouble, F1RS is a blast to drive when it runs correctly. Don

Funny, the only "bugs" I've ever had are #7, 11(not a bug) and #16(again not a bug). As to your other 16 points, I find them either incorrect or they don't happen on my system. This after racing on all the tracks and after 100+ hours in this incredible sim. It may not be perfect but it is far from eye candy. Perhaps there is a problem with your system? Just a thought. This is very strange,as I`ve been playing F1RS alot since I got it in November 97,and Most of what you say,I havn`t seen.? 1.always had sound. 2.Never seen a black sky yet. 3.Never had any invisible cars. 4.Pit lane fine. 5.Fuel consumption is always in my setup after each time I go to the garage 6.As long as you follow your own pit strategy, then it works fine(most of mine are around 7-8 seconds) 7.All my setups are the same after saving. 8.Not sure about false starts,as I`ve never made one. 9.I don`t use the replay function,so can not comment on that. 10.Agree with you here. 11.telemetry is not as good as GP2,I agree. 12.Never seen a big frame rate slowdown, sometime slight at first corner. 13.Agree here. 14.Not true at all. 15.I`ve had and seen lots of accidents and breakdowns. 16.Menus are very slow. 17.agree that there should be a way to get out of the game easier. 18.I don`t use replay,so can not comment. 19.It`s never been a problem for me. So to sum up,I`ve had plenty of fantastic race`s so far,and think this is one of the best F1 sim around. I also think you should check out http://www.f1racingsim.com to find out why you seem to have so many problems. Simon.

I myself have only had the problem with the "Black Sky" once in a while. And that was usually only after I was resuming a weekend between the 1st Practice and Qualifying sessions. There was some sort of a rumor on the F1RacingSim board that a new patch may be out according to someone who was sent an e-mail by the people that run the US Ubisoft page. But as far as I know, that's all it is , a rumor. One thing I have noticed is that the people who are having the most problems with this sim, are people that are using a K6 processor and not some Pentium based chip. Maybe it has something to do with the chip itself or the chipset on the motherboard??? The only other tip I have found is to make sure that if you are running FastVid, disable it as suggested in their own FAQ. Sorry to all out there that are having problems, hopefully Ubisoft will fix these problems soon enough. F1Filter

I was hoping it was apparent that this wasn't entirely a bug listbut also a "Why the hell did do they do that?" list. Anyways, all those "things" in my list do happen unfortunately even after 2 different installs & updated patches :(. The only problems that REALLY frustrate me are the pitting, random outside view (sucks while in a high speed corner) & the change of physics after 2nd pitstop (in Melbourne, Interlagos but not in Argentina so far) I can deal with the other ***but the above problems make it more or less unraceable. I could care less abut replays but since the telemetry does not have individual wheel speed I like to use the replay to see which wheel is the problem in a minor brake lockup. I'm glad I did get some replies..should help me see where the problem might lie. If you guys aren't having the problems I am...I'm wonderin if i got a bad CD. Problem is, since I'm in the USA, not too many F1 fans here hence not any installs to compare mine to. Does anyone know how to find out what version I have BEFORE the 1.08 patch? I'd like to try some older versions if possible. -Screamin

Screamin- I haven't encountered any frame rate slow downs, loss of sound, or view changes. Neer seen a black sky or invisible cars. It sounds like you're talking about some other game. I'll have to go back and read your list more closely... I have never patched the game at all. I'm using a 3dfx; I suspect your framerate slow down is due to the floating point problem with the AMD (I have a 200 Pentium). Tom Anderson

I've occasionaly had sound stuttering with an AudioPCI card, which I attributed to having the PCI bus being blocked by the 3dfx data and due to clocking the 3dfx at high speeds. If I exit the game and play a MP3 file or something similar, the sound stuttering will clear up after a few seconds. When re-starting the game, it is always okay for hours then. One general suggestion (which everyone probably knows but sometimes forget) is to reset your system to a default configuration. No SST_ statements, no overclocking of cpu or pci bus. If this makes things better, then you can add back optimizations one at a time. Not exactly in my experience. According to reports that I've seen, it only happens when loading a saved game in championship mode when the humidity is 5% or so. I've not played many championship races, so only experienced it once out of two races. I don't think its random. It seems to happen only when loading race that was saved when the pit light is on. At least that is the only time I've seen it. Agreed, these are annoying design flaws imo. Perhaps you are seeing the effect of saving a setup in GP mode and loading it in single race mode? It seems that in the GP mode the before race start and after race start settings are not accessible to single race (since there is no before race in this mode). Could be a simulation of the random attention given by the human starter? Yes, the replay function is quite poor and it is seemingly a random occurance whether it causes a crash on my system. I rarely use it in its current state. You might want to check out the excellent program F1PerfView by Rene Smit available on the f1racingsim site. No problems here with a PPro233 (or even at 200). I can't verify this. Usually at the end of a 100% race, I'm so worn out that everything seems loose. :) Yes, definitely agree. I'd like to see more mistakes made by AI cars. Out of the more than 50 100% races that I've done, a few races have the announcement of a yellow every few laps while most have less than a half dozen yellows. And it seems that the cars are removed from the track very quickly, since very rarely have I seen any damaged car that caused the yellow. Yes, yes, yes and yes.. It took me a lot of getting used to, before I could glance at the lap times without crashing. A voice announcement of lap times and other warning messages would be most useful here. All I have to add is that even with these flaws, I get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. And I'm sure it will get better with Ubisofts second attempt. DS

I have had a few of the problems mentioned by the original poster but where the game really heads to sucksvillie is in the multiplayer options. I mean no qualifing??????????? In a sim? And to top that off, you cant even decide what grid position every player gets so you cant do some laps in single player mode and place each player according to their performance... I mean, how hard would that be?? We wasted nearly an hour last night trying to start a 4 player race and let each other past so we were in the correct grid positions at the end of the first lap what a waste of time Also, you cant load your saved settings in multiplay so every time we crashed trying to settle into the corrrect grid positions you have to manually set up the car from scratch (REDO EVERY SETTING!!!) The collision detection is also amonst the worst I have seen in ANY game. You only have to look at gp2 or nascar2 for an example of near flawless collision detection. In F1RS you only need to come within a few car lenghts of another car on SOME occasions to make them end up spinning out of control and out of the race On several occasions the game got so horribly out of sync the player in 2nd position ended up finishing BEFORE the player in 1st place by about 20 seconds!! I mean, sort that out... BUT, the damn thing is the game is sOOOO good that we cant stop playing the damn thing... If only all the above issues were addressed Common ubisoft!!!! This cant be the final version of multiplay? chris
Except for the black skies I did not see any of the graphic-problems you mentioned. By the way: The US version is said to be buggy anyway.

The settings can be loaded (ofcourse if you have saved them before) Ever heard of such thing as a ping time (lag) and lag ghost ? The game gets information and till it gets next packet, the game itself simulates the drive of other cars. So sometimes some car could crash into you on your computer but on the other computer there would be no touching at all (that's what I've experienced while playing over internet) Yes, they should sort that out. I've seen that one on a LAN with PII 233 Voodoo2 computers too. It's good, although, exagerating in the loss of grip when touching the grass or the gravel. Hehe, maybe next version (not only update) will fix that and MENUES !!!! Regards, Tadej Krevh

>> Also, you cant load your saved settings in multiplay so every time we crashed >> trying to settle into the corrrect grid positions you have to manually set up >> the car from scratch (REDO EVERY SETTING!!!) >The settings can be loaded (ofcourse if you have saved them before) Are you sure We play almost every week and have NEVER managed to load car setup during a multiplayer game I would understand that playing over the internet but not over a lan GP2 could handle colision perfectly over a serial cable and nascar 2 with 8 player cars and 20 cc cars wizzing round a 19 second oval. There is no excuse for f1rs to be so bad It almost makes the whole race void, and you never know if the car you see in front of you is actually the other player or if they are behind you on their pc! Yeah. That does suck. But I heard that was a design decision to stop people cutting the grass on loads of corners. They could enforce black flag every time it looked like a player cut the grass, but if it was an honest braking mistake it would be bery annoying. The grass slowdown is just a compromise. I wish!! Every new update we hear about we offer up 2 days of prayer and fasting and sacrifice copies of gp2 to the f1rs gods i the hope of sommultiplayer fixes, but so far we are denied thanks chris
