If you have a Cyrix chip you are NOT worth anything according to PAPY.
It seems that you had to download a 686 fix for N2 ---- now the deo
won't work with a Cyrix ------- I don't understand it.
Another thing -------- I have always had better luck running the sims
in the DOS mode ----------
-------- that goes for N2 -------- ICR2 ------------ and GP2
--------- and they worked beautifully. It seems someone at PAPY would
wake up and smell coffee when after the two major disasters that just
"hit" the shelves ---------
----------- Road to Indy --------- and MS CART ----------- that in
GPL we would at least have an option to run the sim in DOS mode.
It makes sense to me --------- but -------- prhaps they are getting a
bit of a kickback from the computer manufacturers to make sure that if
YOU are going to run the sim -------- you have to UPGRADE to
XXXXHYPERSPACE CHIP with a MEDICINEMAN soundboard and SUPERGALACTIC
supernova explosion videoboard -------- 14 Karat GOLD PEDALS AND
WHEEL CONBO ------------ TWO ---- that is right ------ TWo PAPYRUS
rearview mirrors that connect into the BLASTASS port so you can see
your front door of the home. FULL NOMEX ------- FULL FACE HELMET
----- and on and on and on and on and on and on and on ............
If this sounds rediculous ------ it is ----------- but consider what
is taking place here -----------
It is getting MORE rediculous EVERY DAY ------
THE CONSUMER is being forgotten by the manufacturer -------- they are
so busy pumping their egos and producing something that really has no
merit, and so sophisticated that you damn near have to get sponsorship
from PENSKE to update your system to run the damned things.
I am close to saying***THIS ------------ and NOT BUYING ANYTHING
ALONG THESE LINES AGAIN-----------
IF the manufacturers can't make something I can enjoy without spending
a ton of money EVERY YEAR -------- just to keep up -------- it is NOT
WORTH IT
AS YOU SAY this is just a sim ---------------
BUt if enough people say this and say enough is enough ------ you
watch how fast these things are more runable and enjoyable to us all
in the long run without having to resort to a life of crime to afford
the damned computer upgrades
Some of us have families to support first

Well, besides the issue of DOS going the way of CP/M... I think that
Papy's sim engine required Win95. I assume that their Server/Client
engine for this sim would be more effecient and easier to program under
a multi-tasking environment than DOS. I am sure there are other reasons
why they chose Win95, but rest assured, I am happy with the performance
of their demo. Especially since I tasted first hand their efforts of a
Win95 product with ICR2 (it was frightening to think about GPL being a
Win95 product after that). But, once again I think Papy has done an
excellent job in their programming. I hardly realize I am running a
Win95 program with the GPL demo. It looks and feels like a DOS program,
and I had no trouble configuring or setting up the program.... (except
for the clean-up after the install...)

surprising that that is where they would work best from.

>nonsense
Dos is dead and so are cyrix processors as far as 3D games go! I'm
just waiting for someone to come in here and ask Papy why the GPL demo
doesn't run on their 286 or MAC. Why would a new game/demo support dos
and how would 3D games (ie all new games) run well on a non MXCyrix or
even a MX when it's common knowledge that Cyrix has slow Floiting Point
performance ie slow 3D performance. Have you been in hybernation for 6
months? Wanting to run todays sims on a non Mx Cyrix or even a Cyrix
lesser than the 233 is just ridiculous. It's not Papy that don't care,
it's that Cyrix have remained cheaper by taking short cuts and the
result is poor performance in 3D ***. Why should they support non Mx
Cyrix chips when even with a Voodoo II the GPL demo would run lousy
anyway! Time for an upgrade buddy!

I just hope the final version has keyboard
A big YES from me! If they would just go back to ICR2 menus. Who needs
fancy menus in a sim, give me something that gets me where I want as
quick as possible. This is esp. true for sims, when you think how often
you switch from the track to the garage. I gave up on using the setup
menus in F1RS only because of the menu system...
