My only problem with GPL

I have no problem with the difficulty in handling the cars in GPL, and I assume that I will get better with practice. This difficulty exists most likely because these 1967 F1 cars are modeled very accurately (or at least it seems like it - what do I know about 1967 F1 cars, or 1998 F1 cars for that matter :) ) BUT... The sense of speed being this slow really takes away from the realism of the game (at least to some degree). It bothers me when hitting the straights, but not nearly as much as when I'm cornering (where this flaw really stands out). I get deceived into thinking that I'm going slow enough to handle the turn, but wind up spinning out. And when I do go fast enough to handle them properly, it looks like I'm going 5 miles/hour. Papy seems to have all the technical aspects of a simulation set, but the feeling that I'm actually driving a 1967 F1 car is diminished simply because of this "sense of speed" issue. I hope this gets corrected in the final version. Marc. -------- To replay via e-mail, remove "spam." from the beginning of my e-mail address (Tyring to avoid junk mail)

The main thing is that the front wheels are out of perspective, ie too close together. It's the same in ICR2. CPR manages to get round this by panning the drivers head throught the corners, making you feel like you're actually in the***pit and not just looking at it. This is a MUST if GPL is gonna be perfect.

Maybe the road textures add to the problem, but I find that the scenery passes by to slowly. I don't pay alot of attention to the scenery when I'm driving, but with my peripheral (sp?) vision I notice that lack of speed. Also when looking at an object straight ahead, I don't seem to approach it as quick as I should. I never really paid attention to the road textures, but next time on - I'm gonna give it a good inspection. What sort of times are you doing Marc? It seems you spend too much time looking at the scenery and not enough driving :)

Hmm, I drive at 100 mph all the time (on the German Autobahn ;^). If the reference points are further away, like the trees, they don't zip by. Human beings have bad speed perception, which you can experience when exiting the highway. Lots of people*** up when slowing down from maybe 100 mph to 40 mph, and crash in the exit, still being too fast. l8r ronny -- How to get rid of censorship in German game releases <http://www.gamesmania.com/german/maniac/freedom/freedom.htm |\ _,,,---,,_ I want to die like my Grandfather, ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ in his sleep. |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' Not like the people in his car, '---''(_/--' `-'\_) screaming their heads off!

Sometimes I take a scenic drive that resembles a Sunday drive through the country, but I don't count those lap times. :). I haven't played the demo that much, so my best time is only a 1:23. I may have done around 25 laps so far. I've got a looooong way to go. Marc. -------- To replay via e-mail, remove "spam." from the beginning of my e-mail address (Tyring to avoid junk mail)
