Problems with GPL

I have downloaded GPL and have installed it. But when I go to load the program I get the follownig error message: GPL executed an invalid instruction in module GPL.EXE at 0137:004866f9. Could you perhaps be running a cyrix chip? Both me and my brother tried installing it on our computers and we both got the same GPF errors when running the game....From reading around on the web it appears others with Cyrix chips are experiencing the same problem. I have no problems at all. I am running the demo on a PR233MX Cyrix, M-Tech R534 Mother Board, 64MB EDO, Matrox Mystique 2MB, MaxiGamer 3DFX Voodoo, SB16 SCSI-2, T2 using my CH pedals. Processor is OC'ed to 200mhz 3x66mhz from a stock setting of 2.5x75 (187mhz) Runs smooth at 800x600 with everything turned on. I think you folks really need to look someplace other than the CPU for a solution to your problem. Ralph Williams

I'll bet it's because your 233 is more current.

I believe older Cyrix chips (and AMD K5's) lack a feature which provides a stable, reliable clock that is accessible to software applications. If Papyrus is using this feature in GPL, perhaps that would explain why older Cyrixes seem to be giving problems with the GPL demo, while newer Cyrixes and AMD K6's seem to work fine. K6's are getting to be dirt cheap these days. At a recent computer show, I saw K6-200's hovering dangerously near the $100 price point. IMHO, GPL is worth the cost of the upgrade. Alison
