NHRA Drag Racing

I have a question about this so-called NHRA Drag Racing,I have heard you will only have to classes Funny Car and Top Fuel, what about Pro Stock.I had a long talk to someone last night who knows some testers on NHRA and from what he has heard and what he told mewe get the impression that it's going to be more of a arcade game because they are to worry about how it looks than of how the cars run and feel and in my opinion how the car runs and feels and the adjustments you can do to it is what truely makes a sim, example ABC's Indy car it looks pretty but drives like ***only drivinggame I know of when you let off the gas going into a turn you spin out what a joke. Since the only outside people who have an alpha of the sim are actual professional drag racers, I question your source...But yes, at this time there are only two-classes included (the ones you mention). ...and while we're on the subject...From what *I've* heard, the real cars (top fuel, funny car) don't have guages (instead using a series of lights, as well as a spotter to walk the car to the line), but the NHRA sim will include an in-car view nonetheless. Cheers! Marc

You know I was really wondering about this. It seems like every sim has some problem. The only *REAL* problem with burnout from what I have read is that there is no incar view. But for all I know the HOOD view (which I think I read the game has) may work just fine. I think it is obvious that the amount of tweaking in burnout is quite amazing. I am really wondering what will be wrong with the NHRA game. There has to be something! Sure it may have an incar view, but possibly no chassis, engine or other options. Plus it will only model 2 classes of cars? Only 2***pits, no wonder why they included it! I'm sure many will get that joke :-) Burnout seems like a total simulation minus a***pit view. NHRA? Who knows? If it really turns out to be a joke of an arcade game many people will be shamed. I'm keeping track of you guys :-) -- Header intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes.
Marc, Don't get me wrong I 'm not bashing this game my source is avery good friend of mine and he got his info from a person who hs openily bashed Burnout for not having a***pit view and hasn't even looked at the game, like most of the people who are bashing it for no***pit view. Before you bash something try it first ,from what I have seen and heard from most of everyone who has gotten the game Burnout love it.Oh SRN did a review of Burnout, I hear it was agood review but I'm going to go check it out now. Hi Robert, > Before you bash something try it first ,from what I have seen and > heard from most of everyone who has gotten the game Burnout love it. I hope you meant someone else, and not me...I've been messing with it since late last week, and think it's a gas! Er...Thanks!...SRN did a review, and no one even told me! ;) Gimme a few days, and I'll have it (and some of John's stuff) on the site. Cheers! Marc - SRN

Greg, My suggestion FWIW is, go to Electronics Boutique, or another store that'll let you return software, buy Burnout and try it. If you don't like it take it back! "If" you're into dragracing Burnout will stay on your computer. The lack of a***pit view is "NOTHING" belive it or not, the hood view is pretty close to what you'd see from the***pit and I personally 'LIKE" the chase view better because it looks so damn cool when you do a burnout and carry the front end 100 ft down the track :^) The game is a "TOTAL ***ING BLAST" The only negatives for me is when you do crash, and it ain't hard to do, the car doesnt behave realistically and there's no paint shop. I didn't think the lack of a paint shop would bother me but it really would enhance the game and Bethesda ought think of putting it out before an enterprising hacker does ;^) Very minor "nits" to pick IMHO. So again try it, if you don't like it return it. This is easily "THE BEST" game Bethesda has ever done, I know they don't have a good track record (pun intended) but this game is cool. Looking forward to racing ya soon, Bob

It's called "lift-off oversteer" and it's _very_ real. Try backing off the throttle in a rear-drive car when going hard around a wet roundabout (make sure you are alone and have a spare pair of shorts before doing so). Now imagine that same effect in a lighter race car where the engine brakes the wheels so much more strongly. Essentially the engine is no longer driving the wheels and so induces drag, effectively braking the wheels through the gearbox. The effect is exactly the opposite of accelerating, so if you are in first or second it is more severe than third or fourth say. This is why in a race car you need to be very careful about downshifting while braking into a turn - the downshifting will increase the drag on your rear wheels and so help braking, but if you downshift too quickly the wheels will be unable to turn quickly enough to maintain your current roadspeed and will therefore lock, spinning you. Exactly as happens in ABC's Indycar sim, albeit in an exaggerated manner (IMO). The fact that no other sim models this just shows you how many things they are NOT modelling or including in their physics engine - this is an extremely important aspect of racing, another compromise of balance the driver has to make while racing. Cheers! Jonh
John not tring to insult you or nothing but I use to race at my local tracks in Late model, sportsman, and V8 bombers divisons. So I know a little bit about what I'm doing, but to say I don't know much about Indy cars is a understatment, but I ran ABC's indy car (which I won from them in their football tounrey on Mplayer)for awhile until I put it away in the closet and the car would spin out when you lift of the gas at 60 mph, this game had*** poor handling for the cars and very limted option in setting the car up IMHO ( which are like ***s everyone has one) :) I just hated this game it didn't run very well as a sim to me and guess thats why all thereviews I seen on it were very poor. ICR2 models this - particularly on ovals. Gee, I think even GP2 does! Very dependant on setup this. And situation.

Thanks...I'm certainly not an authority on the subject, and had taken information from someone who is. Perhaps an oversight, or not all cars have this? Anyway thanks. =) Cheers! Marc
