Hi all, Never too proud to admit I may have been overly critical of a sim :-0 Since getting this F1rs back from the guy I gave it too after deeming it crap. I have been retrying it with this Canopus pure 3D. At first I really thought it was quite crappy drive model wise. I thought it was being drove with all aids off but today found it was for some reason turning some back on? Well to my surprise it seems much better/ looser now that I have saved my configuration and load *each* time to be sure. While it still is a bit on the sterile side it is definitely much better than I originally thought. I only wish it had more of a free wheel effect when you release the gas. It seems to me to unrealistically to slow down the moment I slack off on the gas. Other than that it seems pretty good. As far as a sense of speed it seems a little odd still at SPA that first off I can hold it wide open after the first turn all the way down through that 1st chicane En Rouge? But why after that on the long downhill does the fps seem so slow? I thought it might be all the forest in the background. But all along the top straight leading back to the pits the fps is great? This seems odd as this section is just as forested if not even more so. Anyway I just wanted to post this note and say F1rs is definitely not as bad as I had 1st judged it to be. I only wish it had more I thought the same , untill I read an artical about the drag on an F1 car , it seems as soon as come of the gas , you get 1g of decelaration from the aerodyamics alone ( the same as a road car doing an emergency stop) , so it seems it must be quite realistic after all?

Good :-) *EVERY* time you change MODES you have to go back and redo your settings (like manual shifting). Other than that the settinga are saved properly. You are not comparing to GP2. Eau Rouge is normaly taken at full speed. Cool. I guess your not that bad of a guy after all :-) -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes.

Well, this is good. From the first 180 degree all the way to the chicane (boy I hate it, I'm always too fast on the second chicane turn), you should be flat out. Well, this is with a normal setup, I know some people debility make the setup so they have to fight the car (and let off the gas) in Eau Rouge. And for the fps, I would think also it's the trees. Monza is for me (well it's still at least 25fps) the slowest track in fps. I see a great difference at Hockenheim between the Stadium and the other part of the track. You know actually after I posted that I realized it would probably be misunderstood. It doesn't really seem to me that the fps slows down its just the sense of speed seems a lot slower there for some reason. As I don't notice any jerkiness or anything in the video like you would get with a fps slow down. The other thing I have noticed which I wish was a bit different is this, when I let off the accelerator the car slows to quick. Seems unrealistic and makes it a bit too easy not to overshoot turns. But then again perhaps this is realistic of a high down force enabled car? I sort of thought it would be the opposite though as slowing would not allow that down force to play such a role right? Mike
Hi Greg, What do you mean by change modes? Like from practice to qualify in a GP also? Or when changing tracks etc. ? Who me? You thought I was a bad guy? :-( hehe :-) Thanks, Mike

Probably true about the de-acceleration due to the high compression. One thing that I've noticed though, is that the de-acceleration seems to be modeled by applying the brake. You should be able to demonstrate this by going slowly on a slippery surface (wet or on grass) and lifting off the pedal suddenly. The front wheels usually will lock up even when no brake is applied. you mean by change modes? Like from practice to Nope. I mean from GP to Championship to SingleRace. Any time you change your Gameplay MODE, you have to reset stuff because it will default to AutoTrans. Truely bizzare and apparently something UBIsoft has no intention of fixing. But once you are in (say) GP mode, you can practice, qual race change tracks and all of your settings remain intact. The if you want to do Single Race or Championship, the setting go back to the default. This is almost as bad as how it was done in Psygnosis F1. In that game you had to reset your settings everytime you ran the game. This was graphics, control everything. I returned that game the next day. At least F1RS will save everything until you change the Gameplay MODE. Bad was probably the wrong word. I just couldn't figure how someone who is normally reasonable didn't like F1RS. I figured either you didn't have a 3dfx card or were a GP2 lover :-) -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes.
Ok thanks I have noticed this and it is kind of a pain but not as bad once you realize it. Well I am a GP2 lover but I love any " good " race sim :-) Thanks again, Mike
It might be worth checking your pedal calibration, certainly make sure you are not running with a touch of brake applied all the time. You should be able to test this by going into time attack mode in Brazil; at the point where F1RS dumps your car for the start, you should roll back in netural. At high speed, the downforce is being generated at the expense of drag. If you apply your brakes you will get lot's of braking, if you just lift off the accelerator your car will slow quite rapidly anyway due to drag. However as you slow, the downforce being generated by the wings lessens, and you can extract less braking from the lessened grip. -- Suck The Goat
