Hi all,
Using the patched version of NR2003, has anyone else here noticed that
on some occasions your 2nd qualifying lap isn't recorded for posterity?
Just did a Texas run and I noticed that the 2nd lap didn't show up on
the F2 screen after I crossed the S/F line, despite it being quicker
than the first qualy lap.
I had already been slightly suspicious that NR2003 was overlooking some
of my qualy laps so I checked once I was back at the main race screen.
The 2nd lap DID SHOW as being there when compared against all other
drivers, so I was on poll, but when I checked for my own INDIVIDUAL laps
it only showed the first lap as being listed.
No problem I thought and merrily had the race. Afterwards, however, I
then checked my lap records page, only to find that, despite being
quicker than anything else I had done previously, there had been no
update to my qualy lap record for that track.
Now, like I say, I've been a little suspicious that this was happening
without having any solid evidence. I have now been able to see that
there is indeed a problem. This was done as a 'first attempt'. I had
not need to restart qualifying at all.

Wait for sim to pull me off. Normally its only a few seconds after I've
crossed the S/F line after qual lap 2.

Happens here too. I get placed properly though, so it's not a huge
concern. Plus, my top lap times are rarely on a qualifying run, and on
NASCAR Rank, I only look at the overall times.

Just sporadically. Last 2 qualy runs were fine. Wonder if it is only

I just did some TPTCC laps at Dave Noonan's Road Atlanta...My 2nd Q lap
was my faster time, but it did not show on the title screens for my
personal best. However, the faster time was recorded properly in the
qualifying standings so I started in the correct position in the field.
This was a GPL converted track, so I guess we need to verify if this
behaivor affects the default Nextel tracks or just 3rd party efforts.

You look for effects. When you mess with something your affect it. :)

Most
people do that anyway, and I have never had "missing" qualifying times
with MPH callouts. Maybe it's just some flukey thing related to the
type of callout? Just a suggestion...

Interesting... Must admit, I do have lap callouts set to time. That's
how I like it. May give it a try, just to test.

I would think that most 'roadies' have it set for time, as that's what they're
used to. I know that I have it set that way, as do several others in my
leagues.
Although like I said earlier my second lap is always slower, so I can't tell if
it would work anyway.

That seems odd. I can't think of a reason (apart from possibly poor
driving) that your second lap would be slower - it takes a good 1-1/2
to 2 laps to get the car up to maximum speed. Usually this happens in
the straightaway on the second qualifying lap.
Most of my qualifying runs, the second lap is at least 1 mph faster
than the first lap.

me, the more laps I make, the more mistakes creep in. I 'think' that cold
tires in Nascar 2k3 are not a slipperly as unheated tires in real world
series. I've seen CART races where Rabbits are passed by turtles just
because the rabbit is fresh out of the pits on cold tires and even the
slowest (yes YOU Jeff Boss) can pass some of the fastest.
I'm not saying Nr2k3 doesn't portray cold tires, just they don't seem to
be as extreme as some real world situations.

But don't the road courses have just 1 qualy lap anyway? 8-}
But they are slippery enough (apart from at Dega, perhaps), that you are
most likely to have your best lap 2nd time around. Those opening
practice laps are where you get to test the limits of the car on cold
tyres. Make use of them. :)
Too be honest, at most tracks, you can drive away from any other car if
you're on fresh tyres and they're on well used tyres. Even when just
exiting the pits and having just merged, you'll be way faster. Just had
this situation at Dover. Wanted to stay ahead of lead pack after having
just taken fresh tyres. They closed up on the backstretch as I merged,
but I was already pulling away through the corner. How realistic that
is I have no idea. Admittedly I hadn't taken any extra fuel on (had half
a tank still, which was enough to get me to the finish) which would have
helped.

Some do, some don't. It depends on the track. But, my second lap is usually
slower on ovals as well. As I said before, I don't quite understand that...
