Ok, judgement day. Everyone that has both 3dfx "and" rendition cards....lets here the comparisons. I have a 8mb Thriller PCI card. Should I be getting a 3dfx card now or stick with the rendition V2200? Thanks, Andrew

Since the 3DFX patch is only a "beta" at the moment, I'd say its too soon to make comparisons
Ken 18 Mar 1998#400186
The N23dfx patch is only a beta, but I have the Thriller 3d and CL Voodoo 2 to compare it with. Rendition wins hands down, so far. I'd post screenshots but hypersnap doesn't want to take Rendition screenshots and I don't know of any other utilities that will...oh well. Ken The Game Pad http://gamepad.org/

Of course Rendition is going to be a bit better (I would think) cause N2 was made for Rendition in the first place. SS

This is about the only thing that would make sense. -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes.

Sierra's latest Interaction magazine has an article on 3D accelerators where 3Dfx, Riva, Rendition, and ATI all are discussed. In fact the section on the Rendition cards is the smallest, and ATI is even given it's own little side-bar article. I've said it numerous times before... Sierra is by no means focused solely on Rendition. -- Eric T. Sorry, but how do you run it from Dos 6.22? Booting in Dos 6.22 and with the two Glide files copied to the Nascar 2 directory, it doesn't start for me with a Monster 3d. Ideas? Thanks.
Greg Cisko 19 Mar 1998#400354
There are more than just 2 files that must be copied. I believe you need the batch and executable files. And you can put the SET variables to change fog & anti-alaising in those bat files instead of your Autoexec.bat. See I can be helpful :-) -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes. >Sorry, but how do you run it from Dos 6.22? >Booting in Dos 6.22 and with the two Glide files copied to the Nascar 2 directory, it doesn't start

>Ken, >which version of HyperSnap did you try, that did not work with Rendition >card? Current one is HyperSnap-DX ver. 3.10, could you load it from my >web site (if you have an older version), enable "DirectX and Glide Capture" >on Capture menu, then start the game and use ScrollLock key for captures, >then tell me if that worked or not? For some reason, I cant take screenshots at all, with Hypersnap or anything else. the PrintScreen, keypad * dont do anything, when I load hypersnap DX and press scrollLock, n2 locks the system..... I was gunna blame it on win98 beta 3, but i get the same results in DOS mode ( minus the hypersnap obviously) Anybody got any ideas? Im running a monster 3d 4mb card.

I have the same card and I never put the dll's in the N2 directory. I put the glide2x.ovl file in there and it ran fine using my own bat file to run it. Here's a copy of the bat file I use to run N2. You also need to add this line to your config.sys so that you don't run out of environment space. shell=c:\dos\command.com /p /e:1024 g: cd\nascar2 SET N2FXAA=0 SET N2FXFOG=0.10 SET N2FXFOGCOLOR=0xa8a8a8 SET N2FXLOAD=0x100000 SET SST_FASTMEM=1 SET SST_FASTPCIRD=1 SET FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0 SET SST_SCREENREFRESH=75 SET SST_RGAMMA=1.10 SET SST_GGAMMA=1.10 SET SST_BGAMMA=1.10 SET SST_GRXCLK=57 NAS3DFX.EXE -3DFX -- Nos send all flames to: http://www.cris.com/~nosfer/index.html ICQ:#8844008
Eric, don't pay any mind to all the DUMB ASSES who think Sierra has it out for 3DFX these people have nothing better to do. Just keep putting out a great product and make us proud with NASCAR 3. I CAN'T WAIT.

>I put *three* files in my Nascar 2 directory: >* Glide2x.ovl >* Glide.dll >* Glide2x.dll >I don't know if you need them all, but after I did that it worked. <snip> That's what I did now and it works. I run N23dfx under Dos 6.22 now ('cause seems to be faster as in Dos 7.0) with the batchlines described in this group: SET FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0 SET SST_FASTMEM=1 SET SST_FASTPCIRD=1 SET SST_SWAP_EN_WAIT_ON_VSYNC=0 SET SST_VIDEO_24BPP=1 SET SST_SCREENREFRESH=85 SET SST_RGAMMA=1.30 SET SST_GGAMMA=1.30 SET SST_BGAMMA=1.30 SET SST_GRXCLK=57 SET N2FXAA=2 SET N2FXFOG=0.01 SET N2FXFOGCOLOR=0xa8a8a8 SET N2FXLOAD=200000 NAS3DFX.EXE -3DFX and : shell=c:\dos\command.com /p /e:1024 in config.sys But it seems to be not as fast as on my old Cardex ET6000 with 2,5 MB. My system is a 32MB 200Mhz overclocked to 225MHz. With the ET 6000 I run everything on, except people, infield and fence on auto and get framerates between 28 and 30, 39 opponents ahead and 5 behind. With the DM3DFX, running from Dos 6.22 I have the same settings, except framerates between 23 and 25, and everything is on when I passed about 10 cars from back of the field, all inCar view. Looks to me as if the game runs faster, when it is set to 23 to 25 frames, when I set 28 to 30 frames, it is quite bad. Someone knows other ways to improve farmerate, except buying a rendition card? Someone played around with the n2fxload=xxxxxx command? Is 200000 really the best setting for the monster3d? Regards, Marcus.

Hi guys, sorry, but if the Rendition version on your systems looks better than the 3dFX version, you're doing something wrong. I have both a Rendition and a 3dFX board installed, and the 3dFX version beats the Rendition version on all accounts. Achim
GEDW 25 Mar 1998#401280
Hi Andrew, I have both - on my system the 3dFX version is much nicer, crisper, and has slightly smoother framerates. Achim
GEDW 25 Mar 1998#401281
Hi Ken, There's gotta be a difference in systems, unless many of us do something wrong WRT SETting the parameters. On my system, the 3dFX version looks considerably better than the Rendition version, and is also slightly faster. Achim
GEDW 25 Mar 1998#401282
Hi Joeli, Rendition, and the Rendition version beats the 3DFX version on ALL fronts.<< Unless you're doing something wrong WRT to using the 3dFX patch, the patch has got to somehow be dependent on the system it runs on. On my system, the 3dFX version looks considerably better than the Rendition version, and also runs noticeably faster. Achim

OK What CPU do you have, and what SET values do you use for Anti-aliasing, fog and everything else. I'll try anything once :-) -- Header intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes. >Hi guys, >sorry, but if the Rendition version on your systems looks better than the 3dFX >version, you're doing something wrong. % Hi Andrew, % I have both - on my system the 3dFX version is much nicer, crisper, and has % slightly smoother framerates. I just checked the settings on my terminal program, and damn it, it has "echoing" turned off. Am I doing something wrong here? I just can't seem to find the right setting to turn off this damn echo! Wait, I think I found one that may work, it's buried under killfile in the manual. ;-) -- **************************** Michael E.
