Catrol Honda versus Redline Racer

7 posts by 7 people · 15 Mar 1998 - 23 Mar 1998

Castrol is more of a sim. It runs well on my P200 MMX Righteous 3D. The handling seems realistic. Redline Racer is a real arcade game (just as Ubi says). The graphics are amazing and very smooth, but that's it, really. After driving a few laps I could drive all the way through at full speed. Try that in Castro Honda...!!! Also, the feeling in Redline is a bit strange, specially when you use the (very nervous and far too much going left and right) on-the-motorbike-view: the bike banks too long and too often; it almost seems you can turn left while you bank right! A lot of straights (as far as there are any...) you are driving banking one side or the other. In the end I was bored ony after a few laps. In Castrol you really have to 'learn' the track: the more you drive, the better you get. And the on-bike-view lets you really see the bike your on. And it moves alright (it banks more than your head does, if you know what I mean: if just feels better than Redline). Conclusion: Redline Racer is nice to show off your computer to others who don't have a 3Dfx card. Castrol Honda is much, much more of a challenge and far more realistic. I'm thinking of getting that one. Still, I don't know what it is, but I wonder if I would have just as much fun with any ot these two games as I've had with Moto Racer... Maybe this is just because that was the first 3Dfx motorbike game? Jeroen van Engelenhoven

Redline Racer is a real arcade game (just as Ubi The handling is excellent, try this: In the middle of a slow coner, give the bike full throttle - the back tyre will "step out". Then watch the replay of the race, and you will see your bike leave a big black stripe, where you did a tailslide, powering out of the turn. Just like real life. Excellent!

Ok, I have yet to do a wheelie or an endo (under brakes) on Castrol Honda. I know it is more realistic than redline racer but it is not close to being a realistic sim. They also have the challenge of how do you model two brake controls (pedal and hand control for front and rear brakes). The amount of braking you give for front or rear plays a big role in a motorcycle. If someone knows how to do a wheelie in Castrol Honda please give me detailed instructions on how to do it. Also has anyone figured out how to make the AI more competitive?? I smoke them in the first turn!!! From last to first!! John

That castrol honda game wouldnt run...I got a black screen. I have a P166MMX, monster3d, milinium, 32EDO, DX5. I wanted to play this game... the piX looked nice...oh well. Does it have multiplay?

John, OK, here is how to do a wheelie. Get going about 65-75 mph in first gear then totally let off the gas. Immediately after letting off the gas, give it full throttle and watch the front tire rise. If you do it just right you can carry the wheelie for a couple of seconds. As for the endo, get going about 50 or so (maybe a bit slower) and mash the brakes. It will skid for a sec then the back tire will lift. >Ok, I have yet to do a wheelie or an endo (under brakes) on Castrol Honda. I had a problem the first time I tried to run the sim, however after I re-started the computer, it fired right up, and it rocks! I had to give up riding a few years back after a drunk decided he needed my lane more than I did, and this is the closest I've seen to the real thing on a PC. As with most demos, it has problems, so we'll see when the full version arrives, how it really runs, but for now I'm jazzed! Don

Same here. I heard sound saw a shift marker and all the rest of the 2D "indicator stuff". But no 3D at all. Just black PC:166MMX, magic3D (3Dfx), 32MB, DirectX(ception)5 FYI: Quake2, and Jedi Knight work fine. Later... Sean > That castrol honda game wouldnt run...I got a black screen.
