ABC and Primestar 500

Anyone else noticed that todays race is to be joined in progress at 1:30. The Major networks should never be allowed to air these races if they can't show the whole race. I guess we can hope that a wet track will delay the race by a half an hour. Wally
IMO, the major networks shouldn't be allowed to air NASCAR races at all until they get a producer that has an understanding of stock car racing. ABC and CBS coverage of NASCAR races is terrible!

Hey Bryan, don't know what your talking about. Ned Jarrett is one of the CBS commentators along with some "veteran" Nascar drivers calling the race. > IMO, the major networks shouldn't be allowed to air NASCAR races at >all until they get a producer that has an understanding of stock car >racing. Well, if you WATCH auto racing on CBS, here's what you get: "...and welcome back to CBS's coverage of the Daytona 500...Here's a look at what happened just a moment ago..." -or- "...THERE'S A WRECK!! THERE'S A WRECK!! HEY JACK, WE GOT A CAMERA OUT THERE?!" -or- "...Martin is now in front, taking the lead from Jarrett...Let's take a look at how it happened" <because they missed it while contemplating the merits of left-handed vs. right-handed lugnuts> "And now Jarrett has taken the lead back!...Let's take a look at what happened here.." <also missed, because replay of first incident> >:( CBS is the worst, but has some of the best commentators...They talk, and talk, and talk, and talk, and...Ooooh! They missed another one! ABC isn't too hot either...They have the cameras, the positions, but they have a producer who (IMHO) would rather be out checking the snow- bunnies in Aspen, than be telling his camera people to focus on the action. Amazing that ABC and ESPN are even in the same parent company. It is my opinion that commentators should never appear at all, and do what they're supposed to do...comment, but only when appropriate. Stay out of the pits...this is what the ESPN "Happy Hour's" for. For those without access to ESPN, then the regular networks should have a thorough pre-race commentary, and once the green flag drops, shut the hell up <at least the mumbo-jumbo crap>! =P Oh, and BTW, Ned Jarrett *is* a "veteran" NASCAR driver. =) Cheers! Ned Jarrett, Baker, the rest of the veterans are great. They should just ***the commentators now and then. >Hey Bryan, don't know what your talking about. Ned Jarrett is one of the CBS

I realize that now, i tuned into ABC on my DSS and they started coverage at 1:00, To no avail there won't be a race today any way. There are alot of people out there that were not going to see the race live at all. Wally

Not quite everyone! I don't know now wether I will get a chance to watch the race here in Canada! I could if it was on ABC, it is a lot more doubtful now that the race is being shown on ESPN! I just hope TSN shows the race tommorrow! John
I dont know what you guys are talking bout, cuz the race (was supposed to ) started at 12:00 my time, right on schedule for the start if it wouldn'thave been raining.

Maybe it is you who doesn't know what he is talking about. Ned Jarrett is not a producer. He doesn't decide which camera's view to show the viewers. He doesn't decide when to show the commercials. I'm guessing you are are another "NASCAR fan" that thinks that all that matters in the sport is who is in front. >> IMO, the major networks shouldn't be allowed to air NASCAR races at >>all until they get a producer that has an understanding of stock car >>racing. I just want to make one comment about this message and all your replies. Even joined in progress you were pretty damn lucky to even get coverage of the race. Here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada we only get one ABC station and they didn't even have the race or the IROC race that was suppose to be on at 5 in their schedule. Instead they had a damn telethon until 7pm, and of course they didn't air the rain postponed race today. I do have to agree though, that the networks shouldn't be allowed to air the races, unless they are willing to make an effort at properly covering it, and can ensure all the network stations are going to air it, LIVE, and if it gets postponed until the next day, they still have to air it on all there stations. Just my comments. Dean :) dbd'AT'interlog.com
