OK...I broke down and bought NR2. WIN95/DOS CD version.
BEFORE I open the box, I'd like to know if this will run on my machine.
(I couldn't get "Need for Speed 2 SE" running cuz my crummy soundcard
isn't DirectX-able....grrrrr. So, since I opened it already it can't be
returned...it's sitting on the shelf until I can upgrade.)
My system is 166MMX, 32 MB, 24X CD-ROM, Microsoft Sidewinder
PrecisionPro digital joystick (brand new), Win95.
Any patches I should be aware of? I can't tell what version number this
game is from the outside of the box.
Thanks in advance for all help/responses.

Sure hope THIS game works. It's the 3rd game I've tried in 2 weeks. MS
FlightSim98 works ok, but no sound (DirectX problem I think), NFS2SE
nada...now this. So much for trying to save a few bucks buying a
generic computer box.
You might want to fork out $17 bucks and get a Yamaha (SB16 clone) cheapo
sound card. They are nothing fancy, but at least they work. I have a
secondary computer I just installed one in. A P166 with 32Mb Ram and a
Thriller 3d/Canopus Pure 3dfx setup. The card works great in everything I've
tried it in, including Nascar 2. The only drawback is that the joystick port
on the card would not work with my Thrustmaster wheel/pedal setup, but
fortunately I had an old ACM gamecard laying around. Anyway, just my 2
cents. BTW, Nascar 2 can run in DOS mode, so no need for Direct X drivers.
It runs like a dog in Win 95 anyway!

game to respond to my joystick (it "tests" fine in setup).
I've auto-updated for the current patches. No change.
Using a Sidewinder PrecisionPro joystick.
Thanks for any help out there.

bought it.I have just about the same joystick that you have. It's a Microsoft
Sidewinder3d pro and i also have the Thrustmaster t2 steering wheel with pedals
which cost about 140.00.It's so much easier to use & better control of the
car.

By from a retailer with less unreasonably policies. Electronic
Boutique for one has a reasonable return policy. In any event, Sierra
stands ready to take back product within 30 days if the retailer
won't, but why should you bother with that level of hassle when you
should be able to return non-functional titles to the place of
purchase...
