N2 Kali lockups

Does anyone know why during a multiplayer race on kali my computer would start accessing the hard drive rapidly? When this happens I am hosting the game, my screen starts getting very jittery even when no other cars are visible. It happens sometimes with only one opponent. Once the hard disk starts to go crazy there is about an 80% chance of the computer locking up. The pings to the other player have been excellent - less than 400. It usually happens after about 10 laps. Could this have something to do with the saving of replay footage??
Sounds like a screen saver trying to start or a power management system. -- Kevin Anderson ICQ # 6769389 Oscar FB Div. 10 BTTW >Does anyone know why during a multiplayer race on kali my computer >would start accessing the hard drive rapidly? When this happens I am
Thanks for the tip but I disabled the screen saver and I don't have power management setup. >Sounds like a screen saver trying to start or a power management system.

How much memory do you have in your computer? I'm guessing you have 16 or 32 megs... you may want to consider upgrading to 64. It sounds like Win95 is trying to write to virtual memory, which especially wreaks havoc on online games and can cause the disk grinding and freezes you describe. Adding RAM would alleviate the situation (if it is indeed your problem), as will closing any other programs you have running when you start up N2.
Actually you are very close. I have 40megs of ram. The only programs running when the wild hard disk accessing occurs are kali95 v1.2 and Nascar2. says... >>Does anyone know why during a multiplayer race on kali my computer >>would start accessing the hard drive rapidly? Find Fast 97 can be a drag on overall system performance If you've installed Office 97 on your system, you may notice your hard disk burst into a frenzy of activity at regular intervals and perform slowly. The activity is generated by the Find Fast utility. This feature creates and manages an index that Office applications such as Word and Excel use to launch full-text searches from the File Open dialog box. By default, Find Fast is configured to run every two hours, which is usually too often for most casual Office users. To set a less frequent schedule, first open Control Panel and double-click the Find Fast icon. Then, pull down the Index menu and select the Update Interval... command. Now, enter a more reasonable time span, such as every 24 hours. On Wed, 4 Mar 1998 12:51:37 -0500, "John Dubuque"
