Better sell all my Dolby Labs stock before this news hits Wall Street. Keith. -- please remove _spam from e-mail address when replying

Actually - this is wrong anyway.... Dolby Surround can only be correctly decoded using a delay (about 20mS if memory serves) between front and rear speakers. Connecting the wires as I suspect this tip goes, works only to cancel the mono center signal. A better way is to use a 741 op-amp configured as a differential amplifier and feed the output to a separate amp. That way you have some control over the relative levels and so on. The delay line, BTW, is a real pain to implement and it's expensive too even using solid state BBDs. When it comes to Pro Logic, the whole apple cart gets tipped over. In this case, Dolby have used (among other things) signal steering to give much greater channel separation than with the "passive" system described above. So you see, you can't do it with a few bits from Tandy: guess those DSPs are pretty safe after all: phew! How do I know all this? I wrote a book on it! Thanks to a theiving publisher (who still owes me money) you can't buy it. :-(.... I will probably publish the details on my web page if I ever get round to it. >>> a child could do it! if you can connect 3 additional speakers and plug in >a >>> radio shack part costing 1 dollar you can do it! >>> http://home.att.net/~u-can-fix
