I believe the original T2 were made so the steering was on Joystick A (X axis) and the pedals were on Joystick B (Y axis). The converter puts the pedals on the Y axis of Joystick A. Any newer T2 (made after Dec 96) should be wired this way internally. -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes. >what is this adapter that i have been reading about...i have a cable >that my wheel/pedals plugs into then that plugs into my game port on >my puter..Is that the adapter ??? the converter is for older T2's. to find out your manufacture date, go to the Thrustmaster website. There is a page there that will identify your wheel. dave henrie

Any newer T2 (made after >Dec 96) should be wired this way internally. That is exactly right. Back in the old Formula T1 days when we first made a driving control we weren't sure how it would fare in the market. To keep costs low and minimize the risks we used the Y cable that was used on the rudder pedals. This was all fine and dandy until Win95 came along. Win95 has a bit of a problem reading joystick axes that are not sequential (the T1 and old T2 configuration skipped Y1). The converter, as said above switches this to a more standard X1 Y1 configuration. Now to the real issue. You can check which axes are which using TMScope that can be downloaded from our webpage at www.thrustmaster.com. If your pedals are on Y2, you need the adapter. If they are on Y1, I would recommend the ProPanel application, also in the same place. Hope this helps, Alan

If there is no date on the bottom of your steering console, I would hazard to guess it may be an older unit. Contact Thrustmaster and ask for an adaptor. See tech bulleton at end of message for date information on T2's. Converter Not Needed for T2's manufactured since November 18, 1996! This technical bulletin applies only to Formula T2 Driving Wheels. Please reference the date code on the bottom of the steering console. Please reference note for explanation of date code. The date code for the T2 unit is on the bottom of the steering console. If the date code is less than 961118, (in other words, if the T2 was manufactured before November 18th 1996) use the setup information that exists in your T2 manual and FYI sheet. If the date code is 961118 or later, (in other words, if the T2 was manufactured after November 18th 1996) the converter is no longer needed, and is not supplied in the box. The Formula T2 now connects directly to your computer's gameport as shown in the installation diagram in the manual. **Note: the date code consists of six numbers. The first two numbers are the year of manufacture (961118). The second two numbers are the month of manufacture (961118) in this case the 11th month or November. The last two numbers are the day of manufacture(961118) in this case the 18th day. The proper translation of 961118 is November 18th, 1996. -- **************************** Michael E. I Dled the Propanel and found it tended to conflict somewhat with the DirectX5 applet. After removing it things worked fine again. As you say with DirectX5 it really is unnecessary. Stuart

% >ProPanel gives a more accurate calibration reading. % Oh. I certainly didn't see it that way, and I removed ProPanel. Maybe you weren't experiencing some of the problems some people have with their controllers and gameport. Here is an earlier post from Thrustmaster on the subject: Win95 joystick panel has a max limit to the mid-range value of the control during calibration. Meaning if your mid-range value is above this limit the mid range will be written to the windows registry as this artificial value. It is then possible to have your min-range value be higher than the mid-range. Needless to say, this screws up the calibration and gameplay. The ProPanel writes the actual values to the windows registry that are being outputted by the control. Needless to say, this screws up the calibration and gameplay.
