Diamond Stealth II S220 and GP2?

Yeah I couldn't agree more. Maybe, the GP2 code does not take advantage of the card's capabilities. The recommended frame rate dropped from 12 to about 8. I can't work that one out +ACE- I've been impressed with this card in Win95 (yes), N2 and CPR. -- Regards Glenn Beaumaris (glennom+AEA-msn.com) ------------------------------------------ +ACI-I believe in God-After All Helen Hunt Exists+ACI- +AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQA9AD0APQ- The Quote of 1997: +ACI-The first thing you notice is her spirit and her talent, then her beauty hits you, and you're like, 'Well, excuse me, but she's gorgeous+ACE-' You don't even notice what she's wearing because her aura dominates. First, the Stealth2 is based on the cheaper 2100 version of the new Rendition chip. Though I don't think you'll see any improvement with one of the 2200's (ex: Hercules Thriller). Back to your query: The Stealth2 did fine in SVGA. Same as other cards I have had in the system (Stealth64 univbe/enabled, Millenium, ET6000-based STB LS128). Yes, they all give essentially the same performance in SVGA, based on the in-game "processor occupancy". Don't believe all the hype you hear about differences in performance in 2D games, at least DOS-based! The Stealth *might* have given a lower recommended framerate in the video options screen, but maybe I just misremember. No matter, in the game it was the same as all those other cards. However, in VGA (320x200), it is a poor performer. About 20% higher occupancy readings. This is a known problem with both the earlier V1000 chips and the new v2x00 chips. If you want to play DOS based games in VGA, this is not the chip to use. It is much slower in Quake at 320x200 ('course, you can use VQuake and get better framerate at 640x480!). Surprisingly, it wasn't any slower in 320x200 ICR2. Again, in SVGA, it performed pretty much the same as all the other cards I tried (hey, I like to get first hand experience :-)), in most every SVGA DOS-based game.

I can't work that one >out +ACE- See my previous reply on this thread. Given the low recommended framerates, I assume you are in SVGA? If so, you may be able to ignore them. I found the SVGA framerates of the Stealth2 to be the same as a bunch of other highly-touted cards. GP2 does not take advantage of *any* card's 3D acceleration. You won't see any framerate benefit in using any of the hot 3D cards out there (verite 2x00, Riva128, 3dfx, ...). Only newer programs do, and not all of them.
Greeting, David. I have Stealth2 S220 too. and I'm really satisfy about Papyrus sims performance up. but, When I run GP2 in SVGA. It's framerate dropped into 12 fps. I had had 23 fps on old S3-968 video card. When I try Sitech UniVBE driver. but it doesn't work. Should I try new version UniVBE? and I'll regain 20+ fps in SVGA? Which do you run GP2 on Dos or through Windows95's emulation Dos? and one more question. I'm using Stealth2 S220 CD-ROM's driver. Is there newer version driver on net? I loved GP2 more than UbiF1. GP2's graphics is seem old. but There was more competition against AI cars. drive into edge, and quite fine handling. . Thanks for help. Yoshihiko Minami

Have you guys tried reloading GP2. Maybe the program reads the system config to optimise the game. No expert, but just a thought.

GP2 doesnt really test the speed of the video board but knows of the performance of the video chips that had been on the market when GP2 was released. When it doesnt recognize a chip, as the Rendition chips, it sets the values to a standard performance. You can get around this by simply ignoring the default fps and set the graphic details manually. The V2000 boards are pretty fast and allow you to run with all details on at 20 fps or without sky texture at about 23 fps on a P200MMX. Cheers! Klaus
