You seem to have written my review!
Like you, i've always been an oval racing fan, and spent a lot (A
LOT!) of time with Nascar2, between trips to Talladega - I live 60
miles from the track, so I take in most races there.
I've also used the original World Circuit, and the sequel GP2, as well
as Indycar2 quite a bit, but always went back to Nascar and Nascar2
after a short time with the open wheels.
Then came F1RS. Since playing this sim, I haven't touched the others.
F1RS is so ***ive because it is so GOOD. The ubisoft people should
be very proud of their achievement. And just as soon as those couple
of patches you mentioned (sound, setup-save) are available, this
simulation will pull even further ahead of the competition.
Keep up the good work (accurate reviews!),
Ben Sides
