Hey guys, I need your help. I'm looking at getting a 3d card for my PC( P200 32meg with mmx). I'm looking at a Viper 330 and a monster 3d. My question is, which is better, I know there is a $20 difference between the two. I need your help cause I dont know too much about 3d cards. Thanx in advance. Pat Hendrix27 on TEN
PHendrix27 heeft geschreven in bericht I'd say Monster 3D, since this one is rated as one of the top-3 cards. "On 5 August 1944 in the vicinity of St. Sever Calvados, France, witnessed a German Mark V Panther tank knock out three M4 and three M5 tanks during and after being hit by at least fif*** rounds of 75mm APC from a distance of approximately 700 yards. All of these shells had ricochetted, with the exception of a six***th round which finally put the Mark V Panther out of action." Sgt. Thomas P. Welborn, Germany's Panther tank, the quest for combat superiority by Thomas L. Jentz [link lost in import] [link lost in import]
Canopus Pure 3D is supposed to be the best. More memory. TV-out. You probably have to order it from their web site. Ships in a couple days I believe.

Without a doubt, the Monster 3D is the better buy. Marc.

The Viper V330 is a NEW card, where the Monster 3D has been around for a year already. Therefore, one would assume that the hardware is more sophisticated, and the ratings in magazines such as PC *** rate the Viper (along with other RIVA 128 Chip cards) as a best buy! The only drawback to the viper is that it's new, and their still working on Open GL drivers for it, but given it's D3D ratings, and other scores that I've seen I'm sure when the final release of the Open GL drivers are out it will be one kick ***card. The Monster has been out for at least a year, and therefore more game makers support it, but with a Monster II on the way next spring I would be very hesitant to buy a regular Monster card now. Don't forget the Viper is a 2D / 3D card, not a 3D add on card like the monster! With these in mind I would go with the Viper as a matter of fact I did!, just a few weeks ago :-) so you might say that my view point is a bit biased, but reasons such as these are why I decided to take a chance on the RIVA 128 based card, and so far I haven't been disappointed. If however, your interested in racing games that are already out such as Nascar2, Cart racing (formerly Indycar II) and the like, Papyrus/Sierra only supports Rendition based video cards at the present time :-( Hope that helps.... You will be sorry if you get anything but a Voodoo (Monster, Orchid, Flash).....cause not only do you have to get the fastest 3d card but you also have to get the best supported...Voodoo is the best on both counts. As far as testing goes...Brian Hook of id software just recently did a thorough test of all 3d cards and posted all the results. Voodoo2 is the fastest by a stupid margin and surprise the Voodoo 1 is the second fastest....damn out for a year and still the fastest. The other 3d card makers must hate that shit. WAIT! the Voodoo 2 will be out within a few months... WAIT! if nothing else the price in current Monsters will fall and the performance of the Monster2 could be astonishing. (btw ...A Viper 330 hooked up with a Monster 2 could be an awesome double play combo..)

The Viper will only get Direct 3D support, whereas a 3Dfx card will get Glide (3Dfx) support as well in some titles (eg F1RS). I would recomend a Canopus Pure 3D which is clearly the best 3D card at present. It has 6 megs memory (eliminates slowdowns with extra memory) and TV out :)

Can't you get some kind of disease from holding birds? :-)
