What I know about DOS/Win machines would comfortably fit in a flea's
navel, but my friend Rick knows even less, and he's got a problem I hope
some of you can help me with:
He has a Dell P300MMX, 128Mb RAM, Velocity 128 4Mb graphics card, and
AWE 64 SoundBlaster. He also has a CH Formula T2 wheel (and pedals?
Don't know, didn't look)
Here are his problems:
His CD drive (some 32X whiz-bang) is designated as Drive H, but he
cannot access Drive H (or drive G, for that matter, which is an internal
Zip) in DOS command-line-interface, he can only get drive H in DOS
Windows -- that is, the DOS dialog box accessible in Win95.
He has the following sims, some of which work, some which partially
work, and some which don't work at all:
Nascar 2: His T2 steering wheel steers backwards, everything else seems
OK, and ALL other sims steer correctly.
X-Car: Works fine
NFS1: NO sound whatsoever
NFS2: Intermittent sound problem
He has no access to this newsgroup, and I'm as much help as the
proverbial mammary appendages on a male boar, so if you could give me
some idea how to start tracking this down, I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks
Bart
The driver for the cd rom is not loading in dos. I had the same problem
when I got my new Dell, I called them and they had me up and running in
about 10 minutes. Your friend may just want to give em a call.

dosstart.bat is run. Add the things you would normally put in your
autoexec.bat to this file and see if it fixes it. Also try adding the line
lastdrive=z to your congig.sys. Hope this helps

Here's where I fail you. There is an autoexec.bat AND an >autoexec.dos - I'm not sure which (maybe both??) but you need to >tell your system thru this command that there is a cd-drive out there >and where it can be found....hmmm now I'll make matters worse. ANYWAY you can at least use this as a place to start, huh? >BruceIn the Options screen, I assume he has the option selected to use the wheel
and not kb/joystick? On the left side of the screen he then has all of the
various control options and their mapped control equivalent. Clicking on
the Steering option allows him to set the steering wheel axis as his
steering control. He MUST steer as instructed in the dialog: first to the
Left, then to the Right. When he's done, the option should say something
like "Wheel <>". If he steers in the wrong direction, it will say "Wheel
If he's already done this correctly and it still steers backwards, then
repeat the above process except steer to the right first. This tricks N2
into thinking the axis is switched.

I had that problem on my Digital 133mhz after I bought it. Eventually
I learned that I needed to go to Digital's web page and download a new
set of DOS drivers which essentially updated my autoexec file to read
my CD-ROM and mouse in a true DOS enviroment. So I suggest going to
Dell web page and look for updates or call the company about it. Mine
works great now. Good luck!
