I got to play the full version of TOCA Touring Car the other day,
and I have to say this is probably the best PC arcade driving
game I've ever played! Ubisoft F1RS still is the best driving
simulation IMHO. Driving the car in TOCA feels so real, the
other drivers are realistic when they sometimes make driving mistakes
all by themselves etc.
Also I don't know if this was only my imagination,
but the full version seemed to run faster than the demo version
on the same machine with the same graphics options. I used max
details, and I was quite happy with the frame rate on a 233 Pentium.
I'm confident it was faster than the demo, which IMHO was
a bit too slow. The graphics itself looked the same as in the
demo, so the car textures are still not filtered for some reason.
But the great gameplay more than makes up for it!
Just wait until you see the two extra "cars", hehe. One of them
is those chromed US cars from the 50s or 60s that eat a gallon
of gas per mile, while the other one is a fast tank car, ie.
a tank with big tires. When you press the horn, it shoots the cannon
instead. The other cars keep jumping dozens of meters from the
impact of your cannon, and I got one of them landing on its side
from the impact, unable to continue the race.
This is great stuff! They really have got the gameplay top-notch,
the framerate is pretty good. Graphics could look better, but it is
fine as it is, quite adequate. This one I will surely buy!
