Velocity 128 flickering with CART P.R.

5 posts by 4 people · 19 Dec 1997 - 20 Dec 1997

I cruised by STB's website yesterday and noticed that they had new drivers for the Velocity as of 11-25.......I was just wondering if anyone had tried them yet, and if they fix the flickering problem that has been reported. I'm getting a new system with a velocity card in it sometime around New Years...thats why I'm curious. Thanks in advance! -- Mike McCloskey C.P.R. Thanks for saving me a trip to their web site :) was just wondering if anyone had tried them yet, Yes No. Years...thats why I'm curious. Thanks in advance! > a) prepare to wait. STB is slow. b) If you're getting it in a system keep in mind the STB doesn't really want to know you exist. They will send you directly to the computer vendor when you mention you are using an OEM board. They claim you are not their responsibility, but the responsibility of the vendor. However, you CAN report problems and pray. Randy Randy Magruder Staff Writer Digital Sportspage http://www.digitalsports.com/

Thanks in advance! Hi Mike, I have the same problem with the STB. I have the AGP version but the problem applies to the PCI flavor as well. At one time, the problem applied to all Riva based cards. However, Diamond got their drivers fixed pretty quickly after the problem was discovered. I have been in touch with Alf Covey who works for STB. He frequents other video related usenet groups. Anyway, he downloaded the Cart demo the day after receiving my e-mail and duplicated the problem. As soon as Diamond came out with the fixed drivers, he verified that the problem was part of the base Nvidia code and not 'their; code. Thus he felt the problem would be fixed with the release of their next drivers as this would automatically include the latest Nvidia code. Anyway, since then there has been a release of Open GL compatible drivers from STB. These drivers contain the fixed code from Nvidia and fix the CART flicker problem!
Thanks to Randy and Frank for your info! Frank, where are the new OpenGL drivers available for download? I didn't find them in the Velocity drivers section.....no hurry, my computer isn't getting here till New Years :-) Seriously, I'm sure everyone who has the C:P.R flickering problem would like to know where you got the new drivers (and all Quake fans as well :-) Thanks! -- Mike McCloskey C.P.R. Hi I also installed this OpenGL update and they do indeed fix the flicker in CPR I got them at RUG--Riva 128 Users Group site here is the link. http://tiger.tnstate.edu:8080/index.html I also installed the new certified Velocity 128 drivers from this site and I am quite happy with the smooth install and seems to be even better than before in sims like TOCA. Aloha, Mike
