CPR and Pure 3D

>I'm running a P200MMX with 32MB RAM, and I find it puzzling that CPR >doesn't work well for you. Are you in full screen mode? >What kinda frame rates are YOU getting? Is your card kicking in? If you fully read my original post below, I tell you the frame rate I experience with full detail and full field of cars on my P166, 32MB Ram, Pure 3D setup. It is usually between 10-15 frames per second, sometimes much worse. To get anything above 20fps with cars on the track, I must turn almost all detail off including***pit. I know for a fact it is running in full screen 3D mode. I am not trying to put you on the spot, and I appreciate your feedback, however, I am not the only one who has had poor performance with CPR in the frame rate department. In fact, I will go as far to say that there is no one in r.a.s who has experienced the frame rates you are talking about(35fps) with full detail and full field of cars. If you go to the CPR fan site web page I mention below, THE APEX([link lost in import] and link to the benchmarks page, you will see frame rate perfomance for various processors and 3D accelerator cards. The tests were done with NO cars, full detail, and stopped on the back stretch at Fontana. The best performance shown for what would be close to your machine's configuration(P200MMX, 64MB, Diamond Monster 3D) is 18.0 frames per second. The extra 2mb on the Pure 3D, as opposed to the Diamond Monster 3D in the machine above, would not increase your performance by 100%! CPR is programmed with Microsoft's Direct 3D. Currently the fastest Direct 3D performer is the STB Velocity 128 AGP video card. Again, if you look at the benchmarks page at THE APEX, there is a PII300mhz with 64MB ram and STB Velocity 128. So theoritically this would be the fastest setup currently available to regular consumers not overclocking their computers, for running CPR. The best performance that this monster system gets is 25 frames per second in 3D 640x480 full details, no map overlay, no PIP. And keep in mind, this is without ANY cars AND STOPPED on the back stretch. I think you will find that no one in r.a.s, even the people who really love CPR, would claim that it is able to run full details and cars on a P200MMX with Pure 3D card at 35fps. It is just not possible in its current form. Even if the forthcoming patch improves speeds by 50% you would not be getting the performance you claim. MMX makes virtually no difference in CPR as far as the frame rate is concerned. I have personally tested CPR with a regular P166 32MB ram and Pure 3D, and a P166MMX 32MB ram and Diamond Monster 3D, and I get almost identical performance as far as frame rate. (Don't ask me if I tested the Pure 3D with the P166MMX, because I did, and it still did not make a discernable difference). I know it sounds like I am disputing your experience, but I feel strongly about this because when you post results like this below: it is VERY misleading to those who may be thinking of purchasing CPR and/or a Pure 3D. Again, I am not trying to start a flame war of any kind, I love my Pure 3D card as well. However, I do not want people in r.a.s thinking that if they buy a Pure 3D they will be able to run CPR with full detail, full cars at 35fps on a P200MMX with 32mb. It's just not possible in CPR's current form. Thanks for listening. Let's just hope the new patch does get things closer to these frame rates with full detail. Don Chapman
