I was having the same problem that a lot of people were having in this
newsgroup, with really slow menus, even though I'd opted for a full 3dfx
installation.
I remembered that when I installed it, right at the end where I was choosing
which folder to put the short cut in, it crashed with some kind of general
protection. I believe this stopped an entry being put in the registry.
I emailed Ubisoft who quickly replied, say that there shouldn't be a
problem, and that I should check my installation.
Last night I deleted F1RS, and reinstalled. This time when it asked me which
group to put it in, I choose the default.
I then ran the game, and the menus are a lot faster, probably about 1-2
seconds instead of 6 to 8 seconds. I imagine that because the install
failed, the game was still looking on the CD for the menus because it wasn't
aware that the full game had been installed.
So there you go. If you've had a similar turn of events, do the above.
