Hi, has anbody successfully got GP2 running on a Pentium II. From what I have heard GP2 does not recognize the processor... Id be very grateful for any info Thanks in advance Robert

I run a 266MHZ PII. GP2 runs fine. Hope this helps, Ben Sides
Pentium II 266Mhz, works fine, no problem.

Me too! P2 266.
Hi DM, Do you get 100% (or less) occupancy when you have smoke coming of the car infront? Good way to try this is to do a donat and sit in your smoke; this is when you see the occupancy soar. Also, what does the occupancy do when you hit another car? Another thing, do you have it set at 30fps? That is what I'm trying to run (or more like it... would like to run in order to enjoy the experience:-) What fps are you running? I don't think Mystique would be the problem 'cos I got friends with similar machines and different video cards and they get the same stuff as me. ie. Not being to run it at full detail at 30fps without slowdowns. Can you do it? I'd love to hear your stats on the above. Thnaks, David Mocnay

I too have a P11 300 with 64 mb ram and the Mystique 4 mb card and i have no problems at all with GP2.It runs most of the time between 75 and 100% processor occupancy, sometimes lower and rarely higher. With everything on but sky in SVGA mode it runs at 25> FPS and with sky on it drops to 21.3 FPS.It is a completly new game being able to have all the graphics on. Sid.

> do you have it set at 30fps? You cannot run GP2 at 30fps, the maximum it allows is 25. But why do you want to do this? surely you play GP2 to race, not sit in smoke from donuts? And if you have the car set-up correctly, you shouldn't get too much wheelspin/smoke anyway. Again, why do you want to hit another car? GP2 is an F1 sim, if you want to drive into other cars try Destruction Derby 1 & 2. Theres no problem with the Mystique, I have a K2 200 (clocked to 225) with 32Mb Sdram and a 4Mb mystique, and can run GP2 at full graphics in svga, at max fps (25) and get good cpu occupancy with no slowdowns or other problems. If you have a decent pc and get poor performance in gp2, it's probably cos you don't have your pc set-up properly? Check out Pieters gp2 site, or other gp2 sites as most of them have comparison charts for all the major graphic cards and cpu's, so you can check what sort of performance you *should* be getting with your set-up. d:-) * Peter * 8-) Please remove asterix from address to email.
Since you obviously such an expert on GP2, please can you tell the rest of us how to set it to 30fps? Cheers, Richard

>Hi, >has anbody successfully got GP2 running on a Pentium II. From what I have heard GP2 does not recognize the processor... >Robert One of my friends has a P2 266mhz and the game works just fine with ALL detail on. Hopefully i'll have a P2 266 in the next couple of weeks, as my P75 is getting rather tired and lame.
>> do you have it set at 30fps? >You cannot run GP2 at 30fps, the maximum it allows is 25. The, my mistake. It happens sometimes... whether I want to or not. And it is annoyin to see everything in slow motion. And also, it should be my choice wheter I want a slidy setup and not the CPUs. I'm sorry but some of us still have accidents (especially on the computer). Like me for example and this is after 6 racing courses. Also, sometimes other cars have accidents and sometimes they hit me. This is when it goes into slow-motion mode once again. My point is that simulation should never go into slow-motion mode ever. If you read other posts here than you will see that other people cannot play at full framerate with full detail on no matter what PC they have. That means that none of them know how to set up computers. Mine was set up by the hardware gure at my work... but then maybe he doesn't know enough about computers eiter in order to get GP2 with everything running. I see that as a problem. Anyway my point as I stated above is that there shouldn't be slowdowns at any time on any PC (let alone PII 300). Good programming will drop out textures that aren't important or even frames when it needs to just so that you have fluent gameplay. Anyway, do you have 25+ set in GP2 with all the detail and set on maximum and get occupancy always bellow 100%? If you do then just say so and the case will be closed because then we're all doing something wrong and we'll get your PC setup and we we all be happy :) David Mocnay

I didn't say I was en expert... I just said mine doesn't do it. Anyway, 25+ frames could easilly mean 30. Therefore if you have a good enough PC and GP2 set to 25+ frames then you might get 30. How's that for a sotution ;-) David Mocnay

> Anyway, do you have 25+ set in GP2 with all the detail and set on ma > ximum and > get occupancy always bellow 100%? No I don't get below 100% occupancy rate *all* the time, but I do get below 100 for most of the time, and nearly all the time if I turn off the sky. You don't get my point though do you? you do not need GP2 on max svga graphics at 25fps to enjoy it for what it is, eg:- One of the best F1 sims available (now that F1RS is out there too?) GP2 is one of the most configurable games there is, if you are getting wheelspin when you don't want it, then its because you do not have the car set-up right, not because there is a problem with the game, which is what you are suggesting. One of the easiest ways to get rid of unwanted wheelspin is to either turn *on* the F7 driver aid, or simply increase the first and second gear ratios to a higher setting (the wheels only spin at high revs in low gears). Once again you are blaming the cpu? (or the game?) for your "slidey" set-up. The car will be "slidey" if you have it set-up that way, but it is very easy to get rid of if you know how to set the car up properly (eg:- a neutral set-up). You obviously do not know how to set the car up, but seem to blame the game for this? I have to say that I have never encountered this problem you seem to be having? you are saying that when another car hits your car, the program slows down. I have hit many cars when I was learning this sim (and I still hit a few now) and have had my car hit by the computer cars, but the game has never suffered any noticeable slowdown, why should it? The game should only slow down if you have *lots* of cars on the screen at once, and even then only on a slow pc, or a pc that is not set-up properly for games/sims? So are you being hit by just one car? or are you having multiple pile-ups? And if you read some *other* posts you will see that lots of other people are very happy with the performance of GP2, even if it doesn't fly on their pc. I myself first played GP2 on a 486 DX4 100, I had to play at around 19fps in vga mode with most of the graphics off, but even then it was still the best F1 game/sim around at that time, and despite the limitations of my pc (Note, limitations of my pc, not the program) the game was very playable and most enjoyable. It seems to me that if you are not happy with GP2, take it back for a refund, or simply stop playing it, and try another game/sim. d:?) * Peter * 8-) Please remove asterix from address to email.

PMFJI, but GP2 does have a well known "problem" in this area. If one of the cars should take off, whether that be over the back of another car, a kerb or whatever, the game does slow down. It seems that for some reason the calculations in the third degree are extremely CPU intensive and drag the frame-rate down substantially for the duration of the flight. Cheers! John
