HELP! Configuring TSW under Win95 for F1RS

Hi, I've dug out and dusted down my TSW (I've been away from driving for a bit) for use with F1RS. However, I cannot get the Game Controller applet under Win95 to configure it. My wheel is through my SoundBlaster 32's gameport, and with a Logitech stick through the port it works, so it isn't a port config problem. I've got an old two-button TSW, and if I try defining my own two axis, two button race car wheel setup, it always comes up with the status as Disconnected. Am I missing something? I've got the latest (I think!) DX5 but only Win95 flat (not OSR2). The wheel works fine under DOS games like Carmaggedon. Also, has anyone got any good pages with F1RS setups? And has anyone got a release date for MS's CART PR Ken -- #include <disclaim>

Thanks. I'll give that a go. Does that mean that if I wish to switch sticks (TSW, Logitech & game pad) I've got to reinstall and reconfig? I thought that was one of the things the control panel was supposed to get around? Or is it just that the client software assumes there's only one stick configed? This doesn't explain why the control panel applet doesn't like it. I'll get back to you if it doesn't work. Ken -- #include <disclaim>

I created a 2 Button Joystick that I named "TSW". I can manually select it from the list of devices when I play racing games. I have the TSW and the rest of my controllers plugged into a Joyswitch box...and it works great. But just about everything needs to be Device 1 to work in most games...so I don't understand DX5's device numbers. -- Neil Yeatman Ajax, Ontario, CANADA

Thanks Michael, It now works! And ooh, it's even more lovely with the wheel. Full detail on my 64Mb P166 + 3dfx round Melbourne runs smoothly (20fps+ I think?) except for a slowdown when big things like the city skyline or the grandstand appears. Even with all the aids I can find turned off (ABS and TCS) it's much more driveable than GP2 NSA, although that could be to do with the fact that I'm *nowhere* near pushing the handling envelope - 1:43's my best lap time after about 60 laps. It's a hell of a lot of fun to drive, but one thing I miss over GP2 is the track-side brake markers. I'm still trying to find the right position to stamp on the anchors in three or four of the corners. It feels to me a worthy challenger to GP2, but I'll let the experts debate whether it's better, but for me, it's renewed my desire to sim drive. Ken -- #include <disclaim>

I think we can blame this on Microsoft and Win95. I find it odd too, why have the option to add different devices (maybe it's for UBS?), but it only works when only one device is installed??? -- **************************** Michael E. AFAIK, all modern game ports can actually handle two joysticks, provided they are normal *simple* joysticks. As soon as you start using these fancy joysticks with extra functions, the game port cannot handle more than one, as the fancy joysticks extra functions are using the resources of the *second* joystick features. So if you try to connect a game controller that has more than the standard features, eg:- throttle controls, extra/programmable buttons, top hat switches, etc you will not be able to connect another game controller under win 95 at the same time? So there you go, if you use a fancy joystick and only have one game port, you probably cannot use more than one device at the same time? d8?) * Peter * 8-) Please remove asterix from address to email.

It's not more than one at the same time that we want, it's multiple saved configuration for multiple games. For instance, I've got my wheel for F1RS, my joypad for MotoRacer, and my stick for MechWarriors. What the Game Controllor applet seems to offer but not deliver is a way to configure up all three sticks, and each of the games (if they were all multi-config aware) would save the preferred input method. So, all I'd need to do to play a different game would be to unscrew my stick, plug in the wheel, and F1RS would use the saved config, thus avoiding all the recalibration. As it stands right now, switching controllors is *worse* than in DOS as at least each game there remembered your prefered config. Surely it's not like Microsoft not to deliver on their promises? Actually you can have several devices configured. The important thing to remember is that only the device on ID #1 will get used by Win95 games. I have my joystick & T2 setup so that I just run the Joystick applet and remove one & replace it with the other. It takes all of 5 seconds. You generally don't need to recalibrate either. -- Header address intentionally scrambled to ward off the spamming hordes. >% I've dug out and dusted down my TSW (I've been away from driving for a >% bit) for use with F1RS. >% However, I cannot get the Game Controller applet under Win95 to >% configure it.
