I have raced Nascar1 on Hawaii since it has started and just got a new computer capable of running Nascar2 properly and was wondering if the gameplay was anywhere near as good on TEN as it was on Hawaii. I will be using my ISP rather than a direct call. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

If your ISP is up to the task, the quality of racing is just as good as Hawaii ever was (sometimes it's even better). -- Eric T. I never did Hawaii but NROS is excellent. I've been on for 2 days and have found most of the racers to be quite good AND courteous. Be prepared for some swearing and a few idiots, however. Especially if you (or another) take someone out accidently. I figure these people are LSBC's (left side of bell curve) I'm using my ISP with no bandwidth problems _most_ of the time. Before I joined I banged on TEN and Valhalla with ping. I averaged 198ms after a few thousand trys (using a Perl script my Cal Poly employee wrote). A few suggestions that has helped me: Do NOT have your screensaver running while on NROS. Lock your modem at 19200. Before starting NROS do a crl-alt-del and make sure the only apps running are systray and explorer. Shut off everything else. Regards, Harry
Yes, imho, it is much better. The Ten interface is pretty cool, and of course the N2 graphics are great of course. Not to mention, the price - much better than Hawaii. If nothing else, sign up and give it a spin, I believe Ten gives ya 5 free hours for trial. -- Don Burnette Music City Racing Dburn on Ten
Harry, How do you lock your modem at 19200? I have a 28.8 modem. D_R on TEN

Eric, Do you know if there is any way to determine if an ISP is up to the task of NROS before actually attempting a race?? Dont want to waste money on something if my ISP blows chunks while trying to work on NROS. And I dont want to get rid of my ISP because I dont want to switch email accounts and homepage address. And I dont want to subscribe to another one in addition to because I also pay for AOL (bring your own access - use your own ISP - $9.99).. dont think my wife would allow me to pay for a third. Although shes the one who wanted to keep AOL =) Scott B. Husted http://home.ptd.net/~sbhusted

You can do a bunch of pings (like a 1000 or so) to valhalla.ten.net, abyss.ten.net, and pandemonium.ten.net and look for any timeouts or excessively high ping times. You'll also want to do traceroutes to these three servers and look for bad hops. The easiest way however is to just signup and try it for yourself. I believe TEN will let you try it for like 5 hours and then refund your money if your not satisfied. -- Eric T. >Harry, >How do you lock your modem at 19200? I have a 28.8 modem. >D_R on TEN Create a connectoid just for TEN (as Micro$oft calls them). Start-Programs-Accessories-dial up networking- make new connection. Put in your ISP number, etc. Under the general settings for modem, set it to 19200 and check connect only at this speed. No need to fire your browser up when connecting to TEN. Regards, Harry

Unless you have a laptop, you don't even need Systray. All it does is tell you how much battery power you have left. If you want to take it out completely, go through Regedit and delete all refs to it. This will not deleted from the system, just prevent it from running. And, if anything IS running that interferes, the TEN interface will notify you. Hey has anyone tryed playing this game on AOL? Or is there like a HUGE time delay or something?? I'd like to do some ***whoopin' on AOL, but I'm not sure how good it's going to be!! If you read this message please respond directly to me!!! Thanx.
Aol will not give you the connection you need to play N2 on Ten. You need a better isp for that, I'd suggest trying one of the national ones, like Concentric, Mindspring, Sprint, etc. Most will give you a 30 day trial. I use Mindspring myself, and get fairly decent connections. Concentric supposedly should give you your better connections to the Valhalla zone, if your in an area that has one of their enhanced local numbers. -- Don Burnette I-65 Racing Dburn on Ten > Hey has anyone tryed playing this game on AOL? Forget it. You won't get anywhere with AOL. You're better off dialing into TEN directly. Better yet, drop AOL and go with just about any other ISP (not Online Service). That's what I plan to do soon as I can find a good one (right now, leaning towards Concentric).
