Here's the latest 3dfx Nascar2 news posted on the 3dfx forum: Well folks, I'm sure you have missed hearing from me.. heheh... Here is the latest news about the 3dfx port and Nascar2, as forwarded from Brian of 3dfx. * The Entire game is up and running now, but of course there needs to be some optimizations and bug fixes. * It is being worked on steadily, but progress on this port continues to be rather slow. * Brian is still shooting for a before Christmas release, but don't be suprised if they are a little late. * 3dfx seems to be really pushing for this title now, more so than in the past. * Not sure if a "beta" will be released, but when released it will not be a supported port, much like the quake port is NOT supported by id. * I expect some screenshots from Brian sometime soon, and may be able to post them on a website like O3dfx or Voodoo extreme if they will allow it. * Brian hasn't said what type of port this will be, but I am suspecting a glide port, if so, expect to be able to use your extra texture ram on your Pure3d to get better framerates. * It will outperform the Rendition port. * Brian is at Comdex, but he PROMISED me a good informative update with more DETAILS upon his return, believe me, I'm going to hold him to this! Joe

> Brian, I'm looking forward to your great works! > and Joe, Please upload sequel infomation I will. Remember that David Ceremuga gets the credit for finding this info (mostly by mercilessly hounding Brian at 3dfx for it). Joe

Gee that is funny because It would seem to me that Joe and Dave had posted exactly the same post here and in the 3dfx newsgroup....It is my observation that Joe and David Ceremuga are the same person! Nice try Dave.. PS: I am glad to see 3dfx is doing the patch...it is definitely a game that needed patching perhaps more than most other games. Kas

ROF,L! Thanks for the laugh, Kas. I just reposted Dave's message here as a public service. I can assure you I am a real person, and I am not David Ceremuga ... I can't vouch for Dave's "realness" but I'm sure he'll have an opinion about that. Anyway, here's a web page that should dispel any lingering doubts about my existence: http://www.manning.com/McGinn/459.html Joe

What excactly are your problems with 2D graphics on Rendition boards, or is it hearsay? My 2D graphics are fine, only certain VGA modes (who needs them anymore) are slow... l8er ronny -- |\ _,,,---,,_ I want to die like my Grandfather, ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ in his sleep. |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' Not like the people in his car, '---''(_/--' `-'\_) screaming their heads off!

Here's a repost of David Ceremuga's latest info on the N2 patch - enjoy! Brian, Please answer the following questions, and I'll make sure they get distributed. That way you don't get floods of email! 1. What language are you using for the port (GLIDE, Direct3d, etc.)? Glide 2. What kind of improvements can we expect over the rendition port (graphics quality, fps, etc.)? TBD. I've never played the Rendition version so I can't really say yet. 3. You still expect it to be finished by Christmas? I hoped for it to be done 6 months ago! Yes, everything is still on track. 4. Will a unsupported beta be available before the final release? No. Only Papyrus/Sierra has the right to release materials (screenshots, beta versions, specifications, etc.) 5. What programmer can we send a massive email "thanks" to when it is completed? :-)Papyrus programmers. It is with their code and support that this port has progressed. Nothing could have happened without their efforts. 6. What would you like for Christmas? Peace, love, and happiness. Oh, and my two front teeth if I meet a N2 fan in a dark alleyway Dec24th and the patch has not released! Talk to you soon. Brian P. Bruning 3Dfx Interactive Developer Relations Manager Joe

Try running something like Photoshop and you'll answer your own question. If you don't need hi res, hi color 2D, then yes, the 2D of a Rendition is OK, but in many cases it plain sucks. DOS SVGA however, is quite fast on a Rendition.
