Hi Michael,
keeping a straight line is impossible.... <<
My experience is somewhat the same as yours. If it were not that this is a
MS product and has come on stage with a great deal of good anticipation
then I wouldn't give it the time of day after trying the demo. However I
stand to be convinced as I persevere with it. I hope the release version,
with perhaps any patches that come out shortly thereafter, will improve it
to be as good as I had hoped.
It is surprising that the demo seems as bad as it does. It hardly
impresses. Rather the opposite.
I dare say that most of the people on this newsgroup are not novices to
racing sims. I, just as one example, have been racing MPs' World Circuit
for years in no-aids mode, I drive or have driven NASCAR 1 & 2, GP2, ICR 1
& 2 - all with no aids whatsoever at the highest levels. I do reasonably
well at these games as do many others here. My point is that the people on
this news group by and large have a considerable skill level at handling
this kind of game - through many hundreds and probably thousands of hours
at the various wheels. If the people on this newsgroup feel the game is on
the poor side of being controllable, then what will the novice feel who
buys the game ? I'd have to image they'd give it away as a bad joke.
Also, I like many others here, WANT & HOPE it to be a great game. We like
this kind of thing. Its our hobby. Racing sims are the only form of
computer recreation I do. I look forward to seeing new titles in the hope
that they'll provide another facet of enjoyment of what I like to do. Just
like lots of other folks here I'd guess. If I'm biased at all its probably
in favour of the item rather than against it.
Like I say, I hope it does raise the artform and that this first impression
proves to be wrong. At the moment though, IMHO, it looks very much like a
version 1 job - I'm genuinely sad to say.

Ditto those problems here. I'm beginning to think you really need a 200MMX,
and that those of us for whom CPR is undriveable all have slower cpu's. No
way am I upgrading again just to play a game. ICR2 works just fine here.

It has helped some others who experienced similar steering "twitchiness".

Phillip, I saw the same thing when I first started with the CART demo
bit after fiddling about with the various control and steering settings,
I found it to be much better. I think it may be just a matter of luck in
finding a combination that suits.
What I hate though is th a lack of ability to assign axes to different
control inputs such as JS2 X & Y this is a major faux pas that needs
immediate attention and then there is the matter of the abysmal AI :(!
I think this has the potential to be a great sim, providing the support
is there from MS?TR.

Phillip,
I enjoyed your post. I myself am a novice to racing sims and found MS
CART very "sluggish" to maneuver. You mentioned you have driven other
sims and am hoping you could lend your opinion on GP II. After reading
several reviews it seems to be top notch...
