Hi,
I would like to try the 65 mod for GPL, but there doesn't appear to be an
option to download the 65 mod alone, without Gem or Igor.
Is there a way of running/downloading/installing the 65 mod without having
to download and/or install Igor and Gem on the computer ?
I don't want Gem or Igor, i just want the 65 mod files, so as i can
basically dump them into a new GPl install i made up for the 65 mod.
Thanks in advance for any info...
Cheers,
Ron

Ron, here http://fp.gplegends.plus.com/Index65.htm you can download the
cars themselves, but to get the exe changes, iirc, you need to run gem at
least once.
You can then make a 65 shortcut, but you need to run gem at least once.
This sound right anyone ?

Yes that's it exactly. I'm not sure if you can install gem without
installing igor, but just because it's installed doesn't mean you have
to use it ;-)
igor isn't /essential/ to the 65 mod, but gem is.

To install, yep. After that you can just run gpl or gpl65 without using
Gem.
But if you run offline and switch tracks, you'd need to start gpl thru
gem to make sure the AI is adapted to 65 levels (and switched back when
you quit).
Doesn't seem to be a problem when you just stay on the same track though
- I've run several races, always at Zandy, without using Gem and the AI
runs just the same.

Ok, thanks for the input guys...
I was sorta hoping i could just use a stand-alone installation for GPL65,
with the '65 enabled physics, graphics and ai drivers etc.
I'll do some experimenting and see what i can come up with, as i have no
intentions of using Gem or Igor.. :)
If it means i can't run the '65 mod without having to use Gem to reset the
ai etc, then i'll just give it a miss.
Like i said, i'll have a play with the dl files and see if i can unravel
the '65 specifics from Igor and Gem.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Ron

Well you CAN, sort of. GEM is an installer though, it does need to
install some files and take the gpl.exe to put out a modified 65gpl.exe,
but it leaves the original GPL intact. The Mod team was quite determined
about that (they didn't want to muck up their own GPL 67 installs either).
So it installs GPL65 "alongside" the original GPL, only takes/modifieds
the files it needs, and puts 'em back into the original state once you
quit 65.
And like I said, you can just click 65gpl.exe and run as usual, only in
65, without using Gem - as long as you stay on the same track.
I had the same reservations as you; but apart from a problem because my
gpl.exe was set to read-ony, haven't had any real problems and the mod
does work for nearly all users.

I don't think you'll be able to do that, since the data is bound to be
buried in several .exes and a lot of different ini-files.
But if you're really hesitant, you could always just copy your GPL
folder to another partition (FAT or non-indexed ;) and tell GEM to
install to that folder. It'll leave your original GPL alone and the only
thing you'll have lost is some drive space. But it's almost guaranteed
you'll gain a lot of fun driving those shiny new 65's, especially if you
liked the F2/F3 classes so far :)

online. Vroc will not show them. Or perhaps that is part of the RA's
question, whether you can start a normal Vroc session with just a modified
gpl.exe and graphics.

iGOR & VROC have two separate racelists. You can host & race '65 on
either, but only iGOR can restrict a race to '65 or '67 (or anything
else).

If you don't was to mess up your 67 install, for super safety, just
duplicate your GPL folder, call it GPL65, run the gem installer and
point it at the new GPl folder, let it make all the exes and thats it.
Thereafter you just double click gplc65.exe to run the 65mod.
