My understanding is that CART Racing is a repackaging of ICR2 with
some minor updates and enhancements. Hopefully I've heard incorrectly
and it turns out to be a major upgrade.
As you've noticed, this is not the same product as CART Precision
Racing by Terminal Velocity and Microsoft. That product does look like
a major improvement to the CART racing options.

I've not been here in a while so forgive my ignorance. While browsing
the product release schedule at Avault I saw a listing for CART Racing
(Indy Car Racing II) set for release on 10/23/1997. What is this title?
Is it an expansion title like the BGN add-on for N2? If so, then what
does it include? Are there new cars and tracks? Have the graphics been
tweaked in the game? Since it's from Sierra it won't be 3DFX enhanced.
:,( However, if new tracks and cars are added, then it may be a cool
diversion until CART Precision Racing from MS is released. :-)
If you have any info re Cart Racing from Sierra, then please respond.
Cordially,
Buddha
There are no fixes to the game, this according to Mike Lescault
at Papyrus...It contains all the builds of ICR2 (less the Mac ver),
and also comes with a Tips Guide written by Steve Smith. Price
is about $29.95 US.
Cheers!

name "IndyCar" expires in December (this year)...Would you
have continued to call it ICR2?<g>
For whatever reason, the "official" word is that CART Racing is
being re-released to show that Papyrus is dedicated to continuing
its support for all types of open-wheel racing (see Mike Lescault's
quote in News Section - SRN <http://members.aol.com/simnews>).
Wouldn't it be funny if a 2_year_old product outsold its newer
rival?<g>
Only in the CR box I'm afraid...
Eh?...Sour note? Not a bad swan_song for a veteran sim.
Cheers!

I think it is because of the IRL/CART split. I think CART wants to get
away from the association with the name "Indycar", since a)the
Indy500 isn't a race anymore for them, b) the IRL is turning out to
be no more than a sort of big-advertising budget IndyLights, and c)
the term "IndyCar" sounds a little provincial for the most competitive
form of racing on the planet. CART, even without Indy500 is, is
growing exponentially in popularity and support and competitiveness-
it has discovered that it doesn't need IMS... hence it is time for the
name-change to really take effect.
Also, since IMS wouldnt' license their track to ICR2, and all the
other tracks in ICR2 are in the CART league... it is in Papy's best
interest to also lose the Indy name. CART simply has nothing to do
with a town or track in Indiana anymore. I guess you could say that TG
gambled, and TG lost.
I still remember Rick Genter saying there would never be anything
further in the ICR line, so I am just glad Papyrus still wants to be
connected with it in any way.
But I do think Papy will have an *awfully* hard time going
head-to-head with Microsoft... after all, if everyone from Big Blue to
Corel to Borland to you-name-it has had to sue MS for bullying
tactics, then what can you expect? OTOH, I am extremely e***d that
MS is putting this out- they don't do things halfway. And they have
been making MS FLight Sim, the most popular sim of all time, for as
long as their have been graphical PCs. It is sort of shocking, really,
that they are going in to this racing area- hell, even F1 must be a
little intimidated- imagine the advertising and worldwide distribution
MS is going to put behind the CART name? I can't even imagine the
implications for the sport. With the new fans coming in from the
Playstation Sony hit CART World Series (I'd say the best sim on any
console at this time), and this upcoming CART Precision Racing, '98
looks like it is going to be the best year in CARTs history. 19 races,
one in Japan... wow!
Having once been a Product Manager, my take on this rebranding and
packaging is that it has something to do with Papryus's licensing
agreement. Since the division of Indy Car Racing league and the advent of
CART, the licensing agreement probably is requiring this change.

Neither one can use the
term "Indycar" in any association with their series. Thus, the boxes
had to be redone and packaged.

Sorry to interupt, but what does C.A.R.T stand for?
Thanks,
