It is my understanding the 2200 chip is having anti aliasing conflicts with
Icr2. No conflicts with Nascar2 as it did not include anti aliasing in
rendition. I hear they are working on a fix for this.
Also another note, there is another player coming on with the 3dfx chip.
Integraph is coming out with one, evidently that is the reason they are
dumping their rendition cards so cheap. While I currently run the rendition
verite 1000 chip, and will probably upgrade to the new 2200 when it comes
out, the rendition folks better get on the stick, 3dfx obviously is
becoming the chip of choice for most gamers.

Can't help you there.
3dfx (Orchid Righteous 3D, Diamond Monster 3D, Flash 3D, soon the Canopus
Pure3D), is the current champ both in terms of support and speed. Well,
certainly in support, but a new player on the block, the Nvidia Riva 128
chip (STB Velocity 128) is nearly as or faster (depending on cpu, and who
you talk to). But again, supportwise, the 3dfx Voodoo wins out. I'm
waiting on the Canopus as it has an extra 2MB of texture memory. Rumor has
it that it is available Sept 23. Price is $179 (retail?).
Note these 3dfx cards are 3D only. You can keep your current 2D card to
handle the normal chores.
Seeing that you posted to RAS, one must mention that the only chip supported
by ICR2 and Nascar2 is the Verite chip. Currently the Verite1000, which is
decent but decidedly slower than the 3dfx. Verite is about to release their
2200 chip (Hercules Thriller) which is apparently 3dfx fast. But I've read
rumors that it doesn't work with ICR2 and N2! Comments?

turn it on and off in Icr2. Course, I mainly run Nascar 2 anyway.

I am curious, since ICR2 has the option to turn-off/on the
anti-aliasing, will the 2200 chip run ICR2 with the option turned off?

Sylan,
There are others in this NG that can give you better, first hand
comparisons between the K6 and Intels, however there has been much
discussion in this group regarding 3Dfx and Rendition cards. Much of the
postings have been directed toward who will shake out as the industry
standard in reasonably priced 3D accelerator cards. Case in point the
Creative Labs Sound Blaster shake out in the early 90's. I am the type of
person that likes to find independent comparisons before I make a hardware
purchase. If you are interested in info on these types of cards, I found an
article in Computer Shopper Mag a while back that gives you a good basic
info on the cards so you can make an informed purchase. You can find this
article at:

I hope it helps.

Just a little info on the CPU's you are asking about...
I have just finished reading the latest PCmagazine
article on "The Best CPU's"
It says the Pentiums have way better Floating point
calculations than all the other CPU's.
Floating Point Utilization is used in more and more
Games for 3d graphics.....So IMHO I'm going with
The Pentiums....just my thoughts on what I read...
Hope that helps....And for Anyone who wants to
SLAM me, read the article FIRST...PCmag Sept.23 page 122.

You should add just a little money and go with the K6 233, I know I will
:-). AMD K6 seems to run GP2 faster than Intel, according to
http://volftp.tin.it/GP2/gp2bench.htm
Intel runs Quake faster than AMD K6, but I've read somewhere that there
is a Quake version with 3D support and then there would be no difference
between the processors.
I'm also after a graphics card and I'm currently looking at the Hercules
Stingray 128/3D, which is a 2D card with 3Dfx support and 6MB memory.
Anyone tried this?
An alternative is Matrox Millenium for 2D and Righteous 3D for the 3Dfx,
but it will cost you a lot more.
Increase the 3D with about a factor 10 in games that support it.

I'm not sure that games will use more and more Floating point for the
3D, I think that they will let the graphics card handle the 3D. Quake is
often used to test floating point performance but the latest Quake
version has 3Dfx support and runs super fast on any processor if there's
a 3Dfx card in the computer (I've just checked the Quake tech Q&A).
