X-CAR is here - and it kicks ass!

Mark, No offense intended, but I thought XCAR SUCKED BIG TIME and returned it immediately. IMHO, this game has VERY poor driving "feel." Carmageddon feels better, and nobody even considers that a serious attempt. I admit XCar looks nice on a 3dfx, but I think you go WAY too far. Indy and Nascar are safe in my book. Do you work for Bethesda or something Mark? -Diego

I like Windows 95 too. Does that mean I work for Microsoft?

I agree, this game (playing the official 3dfx demo) has a very ODD feel to the driving. It's just not right, though it's hard to put my finger on exactly why. I noticed that very severe "oversteer at a certain point of the turn" that you did. You'll be turning smoothly and all of a sudden you jut shoot off in the direction you are turning. I have no idea how such obviously incorrect vehicle behaviou got left in a game pretending to be a realistic sim. Joe

I played the demo of this game when it first came out and was bitterly dissapointed to say the least...Then I read the messages posted by a couple of people yesterday and the day before hoping that there was a new demo out and that they had changed the physics of the game dramatically....but to my dispair they haven't. I have played GP2 and Monster truck madness for years and I have yet to come across anything besides these two games that resembles true car physics. I have many friends who are people in the know who also agree with me on this. When are people who are designing these new sims going to realise that it is realism that we are after not arcade style games which X-car REALLY is! Now I know that this is a harsh point of view and to be fair there is some really cool features in X-CAR for example the car setup....man can you play with these cars or what!.....its just that when I take my car out on the track and try to get a feel for what the car is doing etc etc its just not real and in turn get sick of playing within 5 mins all because its not realistic. I could post what I think would be the perfect car sim and all the features it should have but I'm not going to as I feel no one who is in a position to change things actually reads anything here and that I am wasting my time in doing so. I am just holding my breath for Test Drive 4 that is coming out as I think this has some of the makings of a pretty good sim....we'll see...remember I was holding my breath for X-car also!!! > >In sim mode I've noticed the steering feels very progressive up to a > >point and then it kind of shoots off in the direction you're turning. Wherre do you get this TPTCC Patch? Thanx
I have to agree, the steering controls just do not feel "right". I got X-Car the same day I installed The Pits Touring Car Patch for Nascar2, and honestly each time I go and try to fiddle around with Xcar and see if I can figure out how to improve the controls, I end up quiting and instead loading up the Nascar2 and racing the TPTCC touring cars around the streets of Long Beach, four wheel drifting my Honda through the turns merely inches from the walls, marvelling at how much better the controls feel than in X-Car. I have put in many hours already playing the TPTCC Patch on N2 compared to probably less than an hour trying to come to terms with X-Car. I'm hoping Bethesda will come out with some kind of patch to make the controls better, meanwhile I'll keep bumping doors having a blast with TPTCC. Now if only Papy would come out with a 3dfx patch for N2 :-) Cheers. --John -- Note: my real e-mail address is below. >Wherre do you get this TPTCC Patch? Thanx [link lost in import] The patch is actually called The Pits Touring Car Championship, and you can go right to the patch part of the site with: [link lost in import] A brilliant update of car models, AI, dashboards and sounds for Nascar2. I recommend anyone who likes driving the non-ovals in either N2 or ICR2 or even GP2 players give this a try, personally I'm having a blast with it. Cheers. --John -- Note: my real e-mail address is below. Delete the asterisks. ------------------------------+-------------------------- Seattle, Washington USA. | http://www.***tex.com/~jsilva
