Why have some people in this group suddenly become the "Software Police" If someone has a question about a game, and the info is in the manual, that does not mean that they pirated the game. I know that I myself, in my haste to play "Grand-Prix All Star Nascar 3" have just popped in the CD typed install, and chucked the manual into the closet. I have also overlooked items in the manual. And like a post I've seen in here earlier, my Rendition ICR2 had NO manual. So instead of accusing someone of piracy, why don't we just answer their question, and give them the benefit of the doubt? Can't We all get along? -Jody- http://www.geocities.com/~jodys_pit_stop/

I agree that a lot of these posts are going a bit overboard...The only thing I'm against is out-right distribution of copyrighted software (as in providing the Indy track for download). Marc J. Nelson Sim Racing Online / Sim Racing News / The Sim Project No Piracy! Support Sites

I must agree! If someone's crime is overlooking something in a manual I see no reason in not answering their question. If someone says "I just copied 'Grand Prix III' from my pal and I need to know the command to start the game" that is very different. Innocent until proven guilty... Hi Jody, .. << I've never done this myself but tend to agree with those who do. However I'd much prefer people do so with politeness and courtesy rather than the abusive approach often taken here. I'd like this forum to be a friendly place where anyone could come and expect to be treated respectfully, but alas ... I don't think these forums ought to tolerate piracy because I believe it untimely undermines the benefit these forums have to offer. Its very desirable IMO that these forums are held in good regard by the software producers. The software producers are far more likely to have sympathetic ears and harbour an attitude of forum participation if they can view these places as a valid means for their customers to gain the most from their products. If they feel that these forums are used to assist pirates to steal their products then naturally their valuable input would be jeopardised. As I say, I don't think that anyone ought to be abused here, for any reason. If a pirate type request appears to be made by someone them I think they should be politely and respectfully told the reasons why people are suspicious and reticent to give aid for that purpose. I agree totally that even genuine users of software products sometimes like to get a quick answer from someone who already knows rather than read the manual. I suppose its a matter of judgement if it seems that we may be unwittingly assisting piracy. > I must agree! If someone's crime is overlooking something in a manual I > see no reason in not answering their question. Then why should software manufacturers bother to write manuals? The average manual adds several dollars to the retail price of a product; just think, your games could be cheaper if none of them contained printed manuals and cheaper still if they didn't contain any manuals at all (not even on the CD). If someone can't be bothered to look in the manual that they received when they bought the software, I'm not *personally* inclined to help them. If they didn't receive a manual because they didn't buy the game, then I the only thing I want to help them with is sending them the address of the game publisher and the SPA to mail their check for copyright violation. If the answer isn't in the manual, or they honestly looked and couldn't find it (probably the fault of the manual), then I'm more than happy to help someone out. IMNSHO, life's too short to help someone who's too lazy to attempt to help themselves. ---Jim

WOW!! well lets see here FIRST I have to determine whether or not the person in need of help has : a) not bought the software legally . b) If he or she HAS in fact bought the software determine whether or not he/she has read the manual and if so has she /he done it correctly ????????????????????// c) all this to answer a lousy question Well Jim here are a couple for you : 1) what if the software company I bought the software from SIERRA/PAPYRUS writes an incomplete and shitty manual such as they did for NASCAR2 ??? 2) May I please then go to a simracing group or other source to obtain little tidbits of USEFUL information I can use ?? And on an ending note people . I support the efforts of the U.S. Pits and others to fight software piracy but lets not turn this into a witch hunt ! Some people can read things fifty times and not get it right . I know I've done it a few times , miss something in the instructions and it's help groups like this that help us out of that little jam ! If someone is obviously needing assistance with a "hack" or pirated program then ignore it ! But dont use this as a bash session on some guy who just wants a question answered . Thank You David Hudson

-------------------- Agreed... but I 'did' say 'overlooking something in the manual' not ignoring the manual. A subtle but important distinction. ;o) Alan http://www.kiva.net/~akh/simshop.html

Same here.......It appears to me, that some people just cannot be bothered to check the manual? Which is their prerogative, but it grates a little when they then proceed to whine about not being able to do something, which is blatantly obvious if you just RTFM!!!!! d:~)) **Peter** (generally considers himself to be helpful?)
