Max, Kali and Kahn are both shareware programs that allow games to be played through an internet connection via IPX. Racing style games, that require huge amounts of instant information to be passed between modems, perform poorly to anyone that is used to running with a direct modem connection. At most it can be used for practice with a teammate, but racing anywhere within 50 ft of another car results in unacceptable warping in my opinion. Collisions from warping are inevitable as the other car will suddenly disappear and reappear on top of you. Golf, such as Linksls, plays superbly. Obviously golf would not require the demands of Nascar 2. A buddy, who lives only 20 miles away but is a toll call, and I have tried Kali, Kahn, and Heat. Our ping times and latencies are excellent, but due to spikes or whatever, racing is not possible. Some people race with these programs all the time, perhaps they have a perfect ISP connection or have a T1 line. Terry TerryH on Hawaii
On Hawaii you can race up to 36 ( I think that is max for dega) other players at ONE time. Kali you're lucky if you can get 3 at one time. Hawaii is excellent for N1 but you got to have some bucks $$$$$ for the Long Distance phone bill. Sean Higgins Higgy on Hawaii

Kali/kahn make the internet look like an IPX network, and could support up to 8 drivers. However, as others have already stated, the warping even with 2 players varies from acceptable to not, much of it based on your situation, and how much "warp" you are willing to accept. Adding other players and computer cars increases the demands on the system, and make the connection worse. I have had some luck with up to 4 people, but sometimes can't do we with just one other. After you have purchased a license ($25 for Kali I think), you can play for free. Hawaii is the public beta test for Nascar Racing Online. It allows many drivers to race, and is free as far as Sierra/Papyrus is concerned. However, you have to dial into the Boston area server, and are responsible for any long distance charges you incur. It runs a modified version of Nascar1. Interestingly enough, Hawaii generally gives excellent connections (very little or no warping), even with 15-20 real drivers or more. In my opinion, Papyrus has worked Hawaii to a point where it is often better than a 2 player modem race! Those of us who have run on Hawaii for awhile are generally spoiled, and find Kali/Kahn a poor substitute. Personally I have been running the some of the IVGA league, and we are following the real Nascar schedule with about 13-17 racers. It really is a blast to run against a good group of guys. For more info on Hawaii, check it out on the Sierra web site.

If you don't limit your acces you can spend 100$ of dollars each month. But I have used the 10811 access for 10cents a minute and it works great. So I spend 12 buck on a friday night for racing for two hours. I spend alot more playing a round of golf or going to a movie.... it is only expensive if you go overboard. or pay too high a long distance rate! Where can you go have this much fun for 6$ AN HOUR??? -- Best Regards Tim Daley _________________MOTORCITY FAST DRAFT RACING__________________ Driving on the track IS LIFE ... the rest is just waiting!!
