I heard rumors that there is an IRL sim coming out. Does anybody have any info on this? Who is making it? When is it coming out?

Does anybody have any info on the rumored IRL sim coming out?
Why would anyone want to make an IRL sim? The IRL is the most pathetic thing to come to racing ever. Slow cars. I only know about 4 or 5 of the drivers. No big sponsors. So what's the point of that? No one would buy it. -

I'm not sure I understand your logic. I, for one, would look forward to an open-wheel simulation that includes midgets and sprints in addition to Indy Cars. Why not wait until the sim is released to judge it? Oh, by the way, the pole speed for this year's Indy 500 was a scant 42 MPH faster than that of the 1996 Brickyard 400. NASCAR must really suck. I certainly hope Arthur has heard of Ayrton Senna, Gilles Villeneuve and Juan Fangio, otherwise F1 sucks too. As for sponsors, oh...forget it. Jim "Free your mind" Moore

U guys don't think the C***te night race would be fun? What about the Texas night race? Personally, I like many of the IRL tracks

C'mon, give it a chance to develop before you start putting it down. People said the same thing about NASCAR back in '47 when it came about; the same thing about USAC when it took over Indy from AAA back in `40s/`50's... I like the IRL cuz it put open-wheel talent at Indy in affordable race cars. Sure they have their reliabilty problems (gee, kinda like NASCAR 2 that y'all have been ***in' about...), but, hey, give 'em a chance to show their stuff.... Jimmy

I agree with you 100% give it a chance.

> Why do people CONSTANTLY put down the IRL? I'll admit to not being an IRL fan (understatement), but I do watch it when I've got the time and there's no other racing on. I guess I believe that affordable race cars are for amateur and club racing (SCCA IT?, NASA GTI Cup, etc.) and that professional racing's first goal should NOT be affordable cars. How "affordable" is it to have your engine expire anywhere from the parade lap to 2 laps to go? The main problem I have with the IRL model of "affordability" is that it permits teams to exist who can't actually afford the IRL. Sure, they can build the car, and tow it to races, but they can't afford enough spares, etc to be able to realistically compete. When's the last time you saw a <insert favorite professional series> car start with an engine that had been run in a previous race? When's the last time you saw more than 50% of <insert> cars retire with terminal engine problems? When's the last time you saw a <insert> car lose it's motor in turn 2 on lap 1? I agree that there are some talented drivers, mechanics, and owners in the IRL. They manage to put on half of a good show. But to my sitting-in-my-family-room-wanting-to-watch-some-pro-racing mind, I don't really care how much the cars cost. Sure, I don't mind some reasonable limitations to driver aids, crew, reasonable brakes, etc, but I don't need to be able to pick the car up for $14.95 on sale at KMart. ---Jim

How about USAC and the IRL's inability to properly manage a race. At Indy, the last lap yellow fiasco was forgiveable, but still stupid. Last night's Texas race was a complete disaster, with A.J. Foyt's cars declared winner and runner-up, then changed this morning to reflect the true winner-Arie Lyenduk(sp?). This after Arie was complaining in victory lane, and A.J. slapped him and threw him on the ground!

There are plenty of reasons that I don't consider the IRL my favorite league. But really, that's not the issue. The issue is I am a BIG Indycar (CART) fan for several years, and I am very upset over the sham the Indy 500 has become. I couldn't care less about the IRL as an entity otherwise, and probably would be interested in this fertile development ground for new CART drivers. But since the primary leverage of the IRL as a league, is take us or leave us WITH INDY, then it becomes a much more emotional issue. Tony George and USAC have repeatedly demonstrated that they just can't get it right (for many years in the Indy 500, and now in the IRL). There is an interesting article at Speedcenter on Indy. ([link lost in import] I love the comparision of the Kentucky derby management having a battle with the trainers of the best horses. Yes, ABC still televises it, and 400,00 people come, etc. but its not REALLY the Indy 500 anymore, is it? So I'll continue to debate whether the IRL is The Indy Recking League, Indy Mediums (as in better than Indy Lights but not as good as Indy Heavies), and my present favorite, Indy Replacements Leauge. Flame retardent suit now on.

TOP TEN LIST for creating an IRL Racing Sim ;-) Making an IRL sim would be easy- here's -just follow this formula: 10) 3/4 of the engines blow up OR sieze before finishing the race, spilling OIL all over the track to make it Slick for remaining racers!! 9) IF the engines don't blow, all the "cars" crash into each other, causing a humungous pile up! 8) IF 10 &/or 9 above don't happen, bring out a 25 lap caution "just for fun" 7) IF none of the above occur, default to a 3 day rain delay! 6) feature a few tracks of questionable quality for sanctioning! 5) identify one driver as the winner! 4) have a second and/or 3rd driver CLAIM winning the race! 3) cool CD-ROM .avi's could show AJ punching out driver #2 and/or driver #3! 2) More CD-ROM .avi's could show a press conference the Next day to Name another driver as the Race Winner! drum roll please: AND..... the NUMBER ONE Item on an IRL Racing Sim PC product: 1) listen to IRL impressario Prince Tony the Ist tell a news conference how Great his series is! I'll tell you exactly why they put it down. I sucks. I paid $50 to see them race at Texas Speedway and there were only 1 car on the lead lap. He blew up with 2 remaining and the following racers on the lead lap became 2. Great racing.
