I had a couple of questions about lines in the track.txt files. Does anyone know what the following lines are for? SCTNS 8 5 3 DDLNG 111 179 247 389 473 558 DIDNT 17 1 2 19 3 4 ASTRN 125 APOWR 125 (These specific numbers are from Michigan.txt) Thanks in advance for your help. JB

I don't know what the first 3 lines are, but the last two control the Strength and Power of the AI cars while racing in Arcade mode. --

DDLNG: The numbers are positions on the track. DIDNT: These numbers are pointers to a statement the spotter will make if there is an accident around the DDLNG (the number directly above) track position. An accident between positions 111 & 179 should result in an "There's an accident in Turn 1" message from the spotter. To test this out, replace all the DIDNT numbers with '38'. Start crashing some AI cars. Ever hear of that place on Michigan? --------------------

I may have heard they were to do with the colours in the mirror, but don't hold me to that. :) Yep, these have been discovered to be the Strength and Power for the AI (computer) cars when using Arcade Mode hence APOWR etc... I think that the SCTNS numbers have been 8 5 3 in all tracks in N2, ICR2, N1 and (AFAIK) ICR1. Jon Guildford, UK http://www.meganet.co.uk/~pegasus/nascar2/
these two lines belong to the spotter messages and where he will say them on the track. ddlng is something with length. easiest way to find out how long the track is, is to increase the gflag value. the green will wave when the pace passes this point. the green flag value has 8 digits, the first three are for the track length in the ddlng line so just round it. didnt determines which wav will be played at which segment. ex: in the above the wav "1" is played when something happens between the points 111 and 179 which belongs to turn 1 in michigan wav "19" is the backstretch will be played between pos 247 and 389. so which wave has which number? i unpacked the sound.dat and locked at the sound.pck and searched for the turn1.wav which has number 1 and so i had the right numbers (i hope). complete listing below... T1.WAV 1 T2.WAV 2 T3.WAV 3 T4.WAV 4 T5.WAV 5 T6.WAV 6 T7.WAV 7 T8.WAV 8 T9.WAV 9 T10.WAV 10 T11.WAV 11 T12.WAV 12 T13.WAV 13 1A.WAV 14 2A.WAV 15 3A.WAV 16 FSTR.WAV 17 BSTR.WAV 18 BSTC.WAV 19 TRI.WAV 20 TRIIN.WAV 21 TRIOUT.WAV 22 ESSES.WAV 23 ESSESIN.WAV 24 ESSESOUT.WAV 25 LPOND.WAV 26 SHCH.WAV 27 TTUNNEL.WAV 28 1STR.WAV 29 FNLSTR.WAV 30 SHRTSTR.WAV 31 LONGSTR.WAV 32 OLOOP.WAV 33 ILOOP.WAV 34 STRETCH.WAV 35 CSEL.WAV 36 STRIP.WAV 37 HAIRP.WAV 38 HAIRP1.WAV 39 HAIRP2.WAV 40 STURNS.WAV 41 KINK.WAV 42 INPITS.WAV 43 this covers all positions that the spotter can call. with these things found out i have made my indy.txt file and it works pretty good (spotter calls out all turns and all 4 straights). i have posted it lately. missed it?? drop me a line. i you have any suggestions or think im completely wrong <G> let me know. would like to hear some opinions. till then cu robert

Robert: read with interest your explanation about wav files and the N2 spotter. Layout.Dat has 482 .wav files - ALL for the spotter, and more of them beyond what 43 you've listed here deal with track locations. For example, your Indy.Txt file has the spotter saying "On the Final Stretch" (something of a road course description), instead of what we here in North America know as The Front Straight - the file is Fstr.wav - in alphabetical order exactly 1 file Past FnlStr.wav. Also, your Indy.Txt file has the spotter saying "there's a car stopped down low on the final stretch" - when there's not really a car stopped near there! We have known the opposite of the Front straight as the "Back Straight " but your I(ndy.Txt has the spotter saying: " Pn the Back Stretch (more like road course jargon instead of oval tracks) The Bstc.wav is the Backstretch wave and the Next file Past in alphabetical order is Bstr.wav - BackStraight. Your Indy.Txt also has the spotter identifying the short straight as "On the short straight" - file: ShrtStr.wav; whereas oval racers know it as the Short Chute - the file above: Shch.wav How does the numerical order get assigned? Since there's far More location identifying .wav's in Sound.Dat, how does one go about Assigning he proper wav to the location? Dave, The Hammer
i do not agree the spotter can call 43 pos on th track and not more. other wavs belong to pitspeed, car number, car position, pace car and so on. okok, thats a point i dont know the descriptions of a track by heart, cause i have never been on a real track, i just picked the sounds that looked right for me, so if the spotter calls out wrong places its not because there was an programming error by me, i wanted him to call out this. well it only got a very small map of the indy track so it is possible that the turns are calculated a bit to short, so the car is still or again in a turn where spotter thinks its on straight. also possible this mesage is called out because a car is in the pits, tough i do NOT know how to tell the spotter where the pits is, if you do please tell me. again this is not a programming failure this was an individual choice by me. didnt know that backstretch is so road course specific, cause at phoenix he calls out the backstretch too. ok im sorry i overlooked that file cause in the pck file its not listed above short straight (shrtstr is 31 and shch is 27). and excuse again for not knowing about right track locations. but if you call both shortstraights as shortchutes from where do you want to know which one is ment?? again disagree 43 pos on the track, listen to the others, have nothing to do with pos. the numerical order is assigned as the files are listed in the sound.dat. as the packing utility is unpacking them in this order you can find the right order in the sound.pck (tough its NOT alphabetically),till t1.wav is the first one to be unpacked its assigned to 1 and so on. and as you can hear in my files it worked with all these numbers. i.e. the front straight (fstr.wav is assigned to 17, got it??) and to get the waves played at right location you just need a good map with the finish line drawn in it. then calculate the lenght (a 2,5mi is 782 long a 1 mi is 313 long, thats a scale) then calculate the turns and straights and assign the right waves, well thats it. i think its better to make the turns a bit longer then calculated then the error mentioned above wouldnt happen: car is still in turn but called out on straight. happy editing! robert ps: for the nazareth and mlwaukee track.txt i had an more detailed map so they should work fine. (tough in this files the spotter only calls straights) pps: i love ppl who keep asking so i have to controll my work more in depth. thx hammer! -- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Robert Graf Racing Cole Trickle - Pepsi Pontiac #50 <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

>>No??? I figure you must be racing arcade mode with all those hot laps >>you've done. ;) >Me?? : ) I have tried it twice.. at Michigan and Richmond.. Whew!! Hehe! I turn on arcade mode and all the helps for my daughter (10 years old) so she can drive at Sears Point. I tried it once myself during beta - it's amazing how well the car sticks in the carousel. ;) Dave Sparks IWCCCARS Project: http://www.theuspits.com/iwcccars Late Night League: http://www.sequoia-dev.com/Hawaii/latenite.html Hawaii Handle: davids

Robert: What I'm saying is: IF you listen to them, there's More than 43 wave's to chose from that describe track location is all I meant. In other words, plenty of wave's to choose from! Not flaming you - just For Your Information! IF I haad the answers, would I be Asking YOU the Questions? ;-) if you call both shortstraights as shortchutes How does Your Spotter know right now with Your Indy.Txt the location in the "Short Straight"? BTW - he DOESN'T - so what's Your Point? See my opening comment above... Glad to be at your service, Robert - I hope you are meaning to say You Love IT < when people ask questions?! lol Dave, The Hammer
