Didn't think of that, so you are right :)
Simproje 19 May 1997#367188
Hi Mike, No, he really isn't...What I meant is that his program "reads" the ICR2 file, then "rearranges" the formats to conform to N2. His program thus contains no Papyrus propriatary code, and does not infringe on theirs (or anyone else's) copyrights. Best Regards, Marc Marc J. Nelson The SIm Project

Mike Flemin 19 May 1997#367190
Oh, but he is using Papy code. Papyrus wrote the track files that he is converting, not him.

Eric, Please READ my post...it says he's not making money off N2, only asking for compensation for HIS utility. =) Marc

But he is not using the track files, only his converter. I see no copyright violations here. -- Regards, Ed Medlin

Does anyone know if Dave has any intention of porting the converter to DOS format for those of us who don't have the Win95 version of ICR2, let alone Win95 (and know that most users who have tried both overwhelmingly prefer the DOS version)? Earl

I purchased the game for $29.95 plus tax from Best Buy. My investment will not be doubling anytime in the near future. Bleed, Unholy Hate

Marc, You have made a comment here which I feel must be addressed. In order to make the ICR2 tracks work with N2, alterations must be made to files written by Papy. Otherwise, anyone could just copy the files over to their N2 directory without complications. As for the international copywright, It takes more than just writing a program for it to be copywrighted. There are very long and difficult processes involved ingetting copywrights, especially at the international level. As I have stated before, I have no problems with Dave's program or his desire to profit from his work, however, one must keep the facts straight. Mike "remove 69 to email reply"

According to the Berne Convention, to which some 100+ countries now subscribe, including the US, a work is copyright the moment that pen is put to paper, brush to canvas, or keystroke to computer, if you will. It is no longer necessary to file any paperwork whatsoever for international copyright protection in most countries in the world. However, according to US copyright law, the defense of innocent infringement is disallowed when the (c) Copyright notice is included in the work, and additional damages can be claimed when the formal paperwork is filed. Hi Mike, I'm not too clear on your first point, but I will attempt to address the second one... As for International copyrights, the item in question is protected once it is written. The US law is written in this manner, and most countries conform to these rules in the form of copyright treaties. Not all, but most...Like I've mentioned elsewhere, I know very little about copyrights (here or abroad), but feel that my comments to Mark were accurate. I aggree with you that one should keep the facts straight. ;) Marc
