I just bought NFS2 and I'm having trouble getting my thrustmaster
steering wheel to work with it.I have tried the (joycal.exe) Ihave read
the readme.txt but it is not specific enough about what to do.Just
wondered if anyone else has had these problems?
there is an undocumented exe in the NFS directory something like
calibrate.exe (there aren't many files to sort thru). once i ran that
and calibrated the T2 in dos mode i was able to go back into the game
and calibrate the T2 in the NFS game. Also you will need the win95
adapter that came with the T2. This is a real pain in the ***to
remove the adapter to play N2 and crawl behind the pc and install the
adapter for NFS2.

Bart,
Why do you ever unplug the adapter? I have it plugged in all the time
no matter what I am playing and I have never had a problem with any
game. Is there a particular reason for unplugging it?

Ditto! I have a newer T2 that doesn't even have an adapter. I don't have
N2, but I hope it's not true that it REQUIRES that the adapter NOT be
present as it is essentially built into my T2, and I hope to get N2 soon!

win95 mode, given the option.
IMHO better performance and more stable.

One
for Steering, the other gas/brake. Using this without the adaptor gave
you better control and less interference between the regular method of
l/r steering, up/down gas brake. A lot of games can't handle both
joystick inputs or use them for two players. So Thrustmaster included
the adaptor (much later, after my orig T1) to be compatible. For
general ***, it is easier to just leave the adaptor installed and
configure all the games to that setup. Much easier than swapping the
adaptor all the time.
N2 will work either way. -=Don=-

This is interesting, but I don't understand. How do you get better control
and less interference if you are on one joystick or two? I would understand
if the gas and brake were on DIFFERENT axis, but it is my understanding that
even the original T2 had gas/brake both sharing joystick 2's left/right axis.
If the two were independent, you could keep your throttle running high while
tapping the brake a bit. If gas/brake are on the same axis, then the way
the T2 works is that if you push down fully on both gas/brake, you essentially
get a "little bit" of brake. Which as far as stopping goes is probably
equivalent to both full throttle and brake, but then when you release the
brake your engine has to rev up again.
Am I missing something here?

Anyone know when the demo of NFS2 will be released. I'd like to have a
gander before buying the game....

Haven't heard a peep from EA ... I think they are scared to release
the demo because no one will buy NFS2 once they see how slow it is on
their system (and what a boring, poor game it is compared to the
original NFS).

axis.
About a 6 months ago, someone posted the plans / procedures for modifying a
T1 so that the gas pedal and the break did not cancel each other like that.
I think it had one pedal on Js1 Y and the other on Js2 Y. I lost the
plans before I got too brave, but if he is still out there and watching, I
wish he would post them again.

Don't even worry about it . the game isn't good

I agree, I borrowed a friends copy. After playing it for a day or so I
popped NFS 1 back in and IMHO NFS 1 is more fun, more varied and looks
less like a cartoon. Sure glad I saved the $$$$$$.
